Is this a consistency error, perhaps?

In my Origins ending he went on a murderous rampage to kill random Mage apprentices like an absolute lunatic.
And so here he is, Knight-Captain of Meredith.

Now, the Templar do have a track record of recruiting murderous, mage slaughtering lunatics as their officers. But still, it feels a little odd just seeing him here... rather.. regular. Or is it just me that's a little itchy when around him? May just be because my Hawke's a maleficar though.

Maybe he murdered all of them in Ferelden and then heard there were lots if the Free Marches so he packed up and moved? Maybe he instigated the whole uprising against Meredith so he could take over and be even more iron fisted than her? He's been plotting this since Origins I tell you!

I sided with the mages in DA:O and he went crazy I didn't care because I hated him anyways but then by DA:II I realized that I liked the DA:II Cullen better than I liked the DA:II Anders. Mainly because I hated Anders' new voice artist.

Did they give an actual timeline, for Cullen's mental breakdown. It could have taken him more than 10 years to snap. Granted it's a bit of a reach, but still.

DA2 actually seems to knock him back to his senses somewhat.  In Act 2, he actually expresses discomfort with how far Meredith is taking things - and keep in mind that Meredith still has three years to grow increasingly insane at that point.  His portrayal in DA2 is as someone who doesn't particularly trust mages, but still believes that the Templars aren't supposed to abuse their position or the charges placed in their care.

I will say that at the end of act 1, I put 'Torture Cullen to death slowly and painfully' on my list of mental ambitions, for hauling Bethany away to the Circle.

And by the end of act 3, I was willing to shake his hand.

Here's to Knight-Captain Cullen: agree with him or fight him, either way, you can at least still respect him.

It's possible he goes on to do this after DA2. The ending in DAO doesn't say when he goes crazy. Just that he does. But it could happen 50 years after DAO for all we know.

Now all we need is the ability to romance him. C'mon guys! We can make it happen in DA3.

I think Thrask and some of the other templars--the good ones--taught Cullen and Carver how to not suck at this job. I think overall, the templars in Kirkwall aren't bad people, they just have a bad leader of sorts.

And hells yeah, I still want a Cullen romance! :D (Especially after what happened with my first Hawke's original LI.) All the more so since, unlike Alistair and Bann Teagan, he still looks like himself.

Cullen was delicious in a forbidden fruit kinda way in DAO; now he's a character that can be respected. And if there's an expansion, then we can hope that he can also be shown a good time. Heh, I could go with that where Sebastian's concerned as well, let me tell you.

Loved him. One of the strongest supporting characters in the game, and I am glad that his development wasn't "raving lunatic templar" as I might have expected.

Isnt Anders old VA Cullens now though?

I would love to romance Cullen, he seemed nicer now. Maybe over the shock of it all.
And he still looked pretty unlike the new version of some old characters.

Cullen was pretty awesome in DA2. And along with Nathaniel, was about the only OriginsAwakening character that didn't undergo massive plastic surgery.

I highly doubt that the Free Marches would care that he was a mage killer, especially if he's working under Meredith. There's even dialogue in Witch Hunt about how they captured him. He could have easily got off the hook and fled the country.

In Carver's sidequest, there's an entire scene of dialogue about how Templars could do almost anything in the old days.

Cullen as a mellowed-out templar was a surprise, yeah definetly. Nice plot twist.

Greg Ellis voiced both Cullen and Anders before.

Although I would have preferred if Cullen had been the one to get a new voice. In Origins/Awakening Anders was a far more important character and had more face time.

I remember it being mentioned somewhere (Witch Hunt?) that Cullen went through rehab or something.

Cullen in DA2 earned major respect points from me by the end of the game. In Origins, I couldn't stand the whiny bastard, but when he told Meredith to shove it, I was simply amazed.

In DAO Cullen was voiced by Greg Ellis. Then in DAA Anders was also voiced by Greg Ellis.
I'm not sure how they decided who would be voiced by who but it would have been funny if they were BOTH still the same VA.

Edit:  I posted too late!  hehe

Cullen is the biggest piece of douche on the planet. I was so pissed at the end when I didn't get to kill his whiny ass. If he's in DA3, & I don't get to kill him, I'm snapping the damned disc in half. I can't believe they wouldn't let me kill him for taking Bethany. In real life, that exchange would've gone differently...with that chucklehead Cullen face-down in a pool of his own lyrium-tainted blood. What a tool.

It's really sad that after spending 6 years together with your companions Cullen is the only person in the game besides Varic and your sibling guaranteed to have your back at the end. For that alone he gets a tip of the hat.

Cullen is one of the most well rounded characters in DA.
In DA:O he was initially naive and friendly, then Uldred happened and he became paranoid and hateful. Sad for my mage who he had previously shown affection for, now regarded her as yet another monster.
In DA2 he retains much of his paranoia, but always maintains a sense of what at true Templar should be, a protector and guide of mages, not a jailer and abuser. Over the acts he's progressively more mellow and level headed.

I'd gladly have him as a companion in DA3.
