The title sums up pretty much all my questions... Hope they're in the right forum.

1) What are these "Acts" people have been talking about? How many acts are there? When does each Act end and another one start?

2) Questioning Beliefs: I have read on the wiki that you need to flirt with one of the romanceable companions before doing this quest. But how do I know which quest is the Questioning Beliefs quest?

3) Romance questions: are your chances on romancing a character completely ruined when something goes wrong? (Like: getting friendship under 50 on accident)

4) I'm trying to romance Merrill, and I don't know if I did something wrong or if I am on the right track.
I don't know what Merrill's "Questioning Beliefs" quest is.
I have flirted with her once. And that was directly after I picked her up at Sundermount. I also got one of the gifts you can give her, but didn't give it to her... yet.
Her friendship is always above 50, yet I haven't seen her in my Estate once. Well, except for when she was talking with my Mabari... That's about it.
When do I get to ask her if she wants to move in in the Estate?
The wiki also told me that somewhere half-way Act 2 would be her Questioning Beliefs quest. But I honestly don't have a clue when that Act starts and when it ends! Does Act 2 end after you escaped the caves you were locked in at the end of the expedition into the Deep Roads?

So can I get some clarification on these points? And preferadebly also on how I can get the Merrill romance started. I'm very confuzzled (confused + puzzled = confuzzled! Get it? Ehehe..he..eh... Erm... Let's go on.) now and am desperately doing backtracks to search if I effed it up somewhere.

Anyway, I hope someone can answer these questions... provided someone can help, that is.

1) Acts are the section of the game between timeskips, there are 3 timeskips in the game, Act 1, Act 2 and Act 3. Each Act ends with a major event which has quite large consequences.

2) You don't need to flirt. The quest will come up under Companions in your journal and is titled Questioning Beliefs. There are 2 Questioning Beliefs for each companion, each after their companion quest. (1 in Act 2 and 1 in Act 3)

3) They're only ruined if your friendship/Rivalry isn't high enough for a particular option you pick in the game that they will disagree with (and thus they leave the party)

4) Her Question Belief will come in Act 2 after you do her companion quest, keep flirting with her and eventually she'll randomly come to your house and the romance scene will occur. This will always happen in Act 2.

Do you mean with large consequences the size of consequences that the Deep Roads expedition had (Varric hates Bartrand, you become a spoiled rich little brat in a big effin' Estate your drunk son-of-a-uncle gambled away)? Or large consequences as in the Chantry trusts you less because you chose to prank the Knight-Commander by puttin' a Whoopee-cushion on her chair, the Templars have a harder time controlling the mages after you helped a bunch of them escape instead of turning them in by the Templars?

If it is the former, then I'm afraid I'm in Act 3 already. If not, YAY for me!

Ur, the former. What I meant was, each timeskip takes place after you get the sort of "This will be dangerous/take along time, finish anything you have to do first" speech from which ever character. For example, the first Act closing is signalled when Bartrand tells you there is no going back (and after that event, you move on to Act 2).

Ah, okay. Then I guess I'm in Act 2, because I just finished the expedition into the Deep Roads.

Yay, lucky me!

Another question:
If I suddenly get the friendship of one of the romancable companions below 50, will the romance be ended abruptly? Or do I only have to raise the friendship above 50 again to restart it again?

Realizing this is an extremely old thread, but anyone know if you can complete "Questioning Beliefs" for all possible companions or are you locked into to just one companion? Trying to see as much content on one play-through as possible.

Questioning Beliefs trigger after companion's personal quest and require 50/100% friendship or rivalry. Even though they're essential to romance's progression, that's not their main purpose. They serve as milestones in development of Hawke's relationship with the companions and you will get them regardless of romance's status upon meeting above-mentioned requirements. The exceptions are Isabela and Fenris, who require only certain amount of approval.

With Merrill and Anders you only need to get their 50% Questioning Beliefs quest in Act 2 to romance them. I don't think Merrll even has a 100% one.

She does. It's called "Merrill, Friend or Foe" and without completing it she will refuse to join Hawke if he/she sides with the templars.

You're right. Like other Questioning Beliefs quests (ex: Fenris), it feels weird that requires 100% friendship/rivalry considering it starts with her crying. It could be many quests later before you can trigger it, and yet she acts like it just happened. And if you can't get to 100% you strangely can never talk to her about what happened at all.
