 I am able to play for a few minutes and suddenly will get a black screen.  Music will still be playing, but my only recourse seems to be to shut off the computer via the power button.  Sometimes the black screen stays with me during a restart or two.  

I have a 27 inch imac, mid-2009 edition.  All of my drivers are up to date.  Any thoughts?  Is it possibly just overheating?  Anyone else getting the same problem?

If it's persisting through restarts, it sounds like a hardware failure. Might want to run the AHT diagnostics that came on your restore DVD.
