Here is a great video explaining the situation

I think the game was ok, It felt nothing like the epic Dragon Age origins though. Also the Darkspawn look awful now...

I'm maybe half way through & the entire game seems to consist of
performing menial tasks in one, (one!) lousy city, for hours on end.
The world is so tiny! Who wants to put 40-60 hours almost perpetually
confined to one damn location running errands! It's claustrophobic. I felt like I was actually accomplishing a part of the whole story in DA origins when questing, not so much in this one.

there is no interesting overriding goal to accomplish.

I'm not at all invested in these characters (SPOILER ALERT:even when
Hawke's siblings, and mother were being killed/dying it didn't bug me
much),

in origins there was so much character development
& variety of responses, and directions to take with them--I just
loved it! Overall DAO's characters had so much more depth, whereas in
DA2, everyone aside from the dwarf, and the elfs, just seem
two-dimensional. I can't go chat with the characters when I'm bored,
I have to go visit them when they feel like it, ie a couple times a
year.

Not to mention, I really got a kick out of the romances in DAO, &
everything that was fun/funny in them is gone. It's just boring.

finally, I haven't laughed once in this game! DAO had all sorts of little things that just cracked me up.

so much less complex & nuanced than its predecessor. :(

I know this review is quite to one side on the spectrum and not to say this game did not have some awesome features under the hood. But it just was not the same. All and all Mass effect 2 kind of let me down on the combat system and lack of Rpg elements the story easily made up for it though.. This game (DA2) seems to have followed a very similar path. I would say this is the first time bioware has not blown me away with awesome.... Oh well still waiting for Skyrim.

First of all there is a review thread so you should have posted this there instead of making a thread, secondly you are telling your thoughts/reviewing when you aren't done with the game yet. The fact that there is no "Kill the one big evil bad guy/organization" from the start to end is what makes the story that much better, to me. Because it's similar to a TT story plot. These characters are a ton more interesting than DA:O characters (except Morrigan, who can't be topped; ever.) If your mom dying didn't affect you, you need to go back and replay it or something! I was nearly tearing up!

This isn't really much of a review when you just talk about characters and how DA:O was so much better...

A promissing RPG, Elder Scrolls latest addition (heard of Oblivion?).

"there is no interesting overriding goal to accomplish."

I too felt this way for a long while I just couldn't see what the end goal was to be and it turns out that main goal was there the entire time it just was subtle. Things will become more clear as you go.

I suppose not everyone will have the same feelings toward certain events but I think it is safe to say you are one of the few who wasn't affected in some way by what happens to mom. Myself I was so pissed I had to get off the computer for a bit and take a walk. Then give my rl mom a call and tell her I love her.

I felt it was a good review, the game had good points but overall feels shallow and I am not that interested in it. I never said it was a detailed review it is an overall view of the game.

agreed! all the maps were the same and they felt repetitive. not to mention they made anders CRAZY! and you cant really decide the outcome of the game.
SPOILER ALERT:
no matter waht you do the grand cleric dies, war is brought to Thedas and **** goes down!

I have heard of it.  I saw it at the store.  I thought of buying it, but wasn't sure if it would be good or not.  I didn't want to waste money on a bad game.

Is it "dark fantasy"?  I'm not sure I want anymore of that after a runthrough of DA2.  DAO was my first experience with a RPG.  (does sid meirs pirates count as rpg?)  I loved the DAO game!  I couldn't stop playing it...lol!  Awakenings was ok and the dlc was ok, but overall, I had fun.  I felt it was a nice balance of good and evil and all of that.   I don't want all this depressing heavy lunacy that I just went through in DA2!

I will look into it.  thank you.
