He does mention Flemeth once. Though he doesn't refer to her by name. Its pretty clear that the white haired woman with the creepy laugh has to be flemeth. So what is Flemeth's interest in Sandal?

Perhaps it was Hawke's mother, who has come back to haunt his ass for not paying rent. Grasping at straws here...

O.O Mother how could you!!!

In all seriousness, we know that flemeth has a creepy laugh. Also, she seems interested in special magics. Sandal seems to have a very special magic.

So does that mean...I have a creepy laughImage IPB

(Seriously, I have heard my own laughing fits, and they are damn near identical!)

Perhaps you should change your name to FlemethsTwin

Too unoriginal a name IMO.

sigh... yea... this is annoying... I was trying to get back on topic... Bodahn said the circle refered to Sandal as a Savant. Does anyone know what that means?

He's extremely skilled at enchantments.

A savant is someone with an immense amount of talent in a certain area. Sandal has Savant Syndrome (savantism), where a person with a developmental disorder has one or more areas of expertise.

It couldn't be a desire demon because they have firey blue hair. I'm pretty certain Sandal said the scary woman had white hair.

Bodahn freaked out when he said this in the estate. Sandal is not normal in any way.

o.0 I've never heard Sandal say this... at all, ever.

I don't have a quote, but somebody from bioware said that there is a 1 in a 100 chance of getting Sandal to say that. It's not an actual conversation though.

Here's a transcript of the scene:

Sandal: The old lady is scary!
Bodahn: There is no old lady, Sandal. How many times do I have to tell you that?
Hawke: What's this about?
Bodahn: Oh, my boy sees things sometimes. Says he saw an old lady standing by his bed.
Sandal: She has a scary laugh.
Bodahn: Yes, well, there you go.

There's a slight pause, and then Sandal scratches his ass.  Yes, really.  Anyway there's no mention of her hair, just that she's scary, old, and has a scary laugh.  Bodahn's comments imply that it's not unusual for Sandal to see things that other people can't.  Which leads me to believe that what's unique about this isn't the lady he saw but rather Sandal himself.

Amusingly, the wiki folk seem near convinced it's Flemeth.  They link "the old lady" directly to Flemeth's page and the trivia section mentions him talking about a "scary old witch" (he does not say witch, a term we've only seen used in reference to Flemeth and Morrigan) and says that she "told him bad things in his head" (which just plain didn't happen).  Ahh well.

Sandal is not a dwarven mage and here's why:

Sandal=ENCHANTMENT!

Not enchanment!= Sandal didn't do it

Who did? Probably a mage on a zamboni; the ice on that frozen ogre looked pretty shiny. Or the Architect.... also on a zamboni

If it is reference to another conversation, I'll apologize for my mistatement.  But I'm fairly certain there's only one "scary lady" dialogue.  :)

Really, Sandal is one of the best mysteries I've seen in this or any other game.  It's lighthearted and yet still manages to be potent enough that it could determine everyone's fate.  You don't know if you're being trolled by the devs or if he's the most powerful being in the universe.  I love it.

Did Sandal have plants with faces shooting firey peas to get rid of the zamboni darkspawn??

I think i know what Sandal is. I think he's one of the last survivng members of the lost Thaig. It makes the most sense to me.

Err, that thaig has been abandoned for thousands of years.

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean they all died off. I know they turned into the profane, but perhaps a few of them survived had children and Sandal is the last one left. Or perhaps Sandal is older then he looks.

What's scary is I can particularly see that last one as possible.  I can just picture the grim reaper coming from Sandal and Sandal going "not enchantment!" on him.

Maybe he's possessed by a spirit of some sort, which only comes out when he's in grave danger, and occasionally tells him things about the future and stands by his bed creepily.

I'm just saying, all the dwarfs in the lost thaig ate lyrium. So perhaps Sandal did too, but perhaps he didn't eat as much as the others and ran off. Dwarfs do get addled when lyrium gets in their blood. Like the merchant in DA:O was. Perhaps Sandal ate enough lyrium that its keeping him alive. Or perhaps he is a descendent of the lost thaig dwarves and his body became immune to the lyrium.

Or perhaps he's just imagining stuff from being around Lyrium all day. Are fake visions a side-effect of inhaling Lyrium?

Indeed... once the ice freezing the ogre was all buffed there was no need for the zamboni as hockey and curling really died out with the fall of Arlathan.

On a side note the dwarves are losing the deep roads to the darkspawn because of the lack of a low post presence. Without golems as an inside presence to stop them ogres score a ton of points in the paint and turn the dwarves into jump shooters at the other end.

I'm just trying to put the pieces together here. It would appear the dwarves in the lost thaig used magic or had some use for lyrium other then crafting. They worshipped it and what not. Perhaps none of the modern dwarves remember this because of what happened. Maybe a few of them escaped and told the other thaigs what had happened and the king decided that it would best forgotten. Maybe Sandal is the descendent of these few survivors, and his real parents were probably killed by darkspawn.

But the more i think about what he said, about all the old magics returning to the world, the more i think perhaps he is possessed by a spirit.

They call the idol "lyrium" but I'm not sure it's lyrium. Probably some other magic substance.

Yeah, he could be different than other dwarves. Maybe Sandal's not cut off from the Fade and hence has visions and is able to use magic. Or maybe he is no longer is connected but temporarily while in the primal thaig (we see an example of Karl as tranquil feeling connected again briefly) was connected again and able to "not enchantment" the ogre.

I've gotten the scary old lady conversation, but when are people hearing this? Sounds like something the 'scary old lady' might have told him.

For what it's worth, the seemingly omniscient guardian at Andraste's ashes says flat out that she will not return.

The "omniscient" guardian anyone with a basic knowledge of history can outwit so as to corrupt the ashes?

That omniscient guardian?

And how does he know he's omniscient, exactly? :P
