This is only thing that is keeping me from starting NM solo with my experimental mage build.
Problem is, that I cant defeat a single one in 1v1.
I managed to make him durable enought to survive 1 backstab.
I can Heal thru one, Potion thru second one.
Problems are following:
- second backstab can come so quickly, I cant heal or use potion
- it takes enormous amount of potions to kill even a single one
Nightmare - solution to backstab/teleport?

...ok so, im kinda struggling on those assasins, since...
Looks like there is no defence other then survive. Problem is, that at NM, it takes more than half of your hp, even with high armor and con, and there is no possible defence. I tried to quicky mindblast him when he appears, but he seems to be immune to stuns at that phase. I tried to move away, but he chase me and backstabs me, I tried to stick to the wall, but he appears in front and face-stabs me...
Anyone discovered any real defence against this?

Mage: Try using Dispel Magic to remove his stealth. You have to be quick, but thank god it's an AoE.
Even better is to cast Horror on the rogue and have the party wail on him until he's dead. I don't think I found a single assassin that wasn't vulnerable to it.
Warrior: The templar abilities Silence and Cleanse will either prevent them from stealthing or will remove stealth.
Rogue: Hide. Hopefully they won't go after your mage.

I honestly can't even imagine trying to solo nightmare, especially on a mage. With that said if you run from rogues they will eventually unstealth. Also I can confirm putting your back to the wall will prevent it from backstabbing as well.
Another thing you can try is get force of the maker and use it immediately when they stealth. I've had success using this tactic and they seem to pop out where they were. Some of the other force spells that pull and push mobs can have similar results as well.
Last trick that I used a lot in dealing with rogues is to keep your mabiri hound summoned. The rogues always backstab the closest target, so stay at range and/or run from where it stealths and let it ambush the dog instead.
