lol, actually ... I think the companions have static outfits so that they all didn't look like each other, and to remove that since of dread of having to compare a hat to everyone else's hat everytime you found a bloody hat. Which was often. Most for the cosmetic reason, though. Isabella in the same outfit as me, or Fenris in something not spikey just strips the chars of their integrity.

Which is what I think this game excells at the most: characters.

p.s. I do all the sidequests, too.

this reminds me of when Dick Cheyney shot his friend in the face, while quale hunting, and his friend apologized to him.

This isn't a bad game stand alone, having no relation to DA. But when your fans expect a certain degree of the first game to be present in the second game, and it's not.. you kinda **** the whole thing up.

No they didn't screw it all up. Are you sure you're not overreacting? There are still very big overlaps between the first and second game. And your complaints are really minor ones. What did you think of the story? The characters?

Story is decent I suppose. No where near the level Origins was on. I find myself not really caring about the story or the characters to be honest. The only real overlaps are minor references which, make me think "Oh, I remember how awesome it was doing that in Origins... wait.. now I wanna play origins". The characters, eh. Beth is decent. I like her design and her attitude flows with most of my choices I like to make. The 70's pornstar dwarf with a steampunk rifle that turns into a crossbow.... :/. He was ruined for me with the foreshadowing in the start of the game. Merillith is the only real character I like thus far. Everyone else has some broken down accent or some lame ass back story...

All the characters just seem generic stereotypes now. Nothing impressive. Atleast the accents in Origins didn't sound like something I'd hear in a monty python movie.

Again. The game isn't bad. But to me they already built up what DA should of been, and didn't follow it. From what I heard they did the same to ME2 (didn't play it because I didn't like the bit of it I played).

I'd probably give this more of a fair chance if it had a different name, but this is just a ****** off to me. I feel like bioware just took a ****** on my head.

Um, in Origins, none of my characters ever looked the same... and they all had awesome gear I found while I played.

I never doubted Bioware at any given point in time. If anything, this game exceeded my expectations, especially during the second and third acts. I just wish more people appreciated this game a lot more and value it for what it truly is; a masterpiece in storytelling. Despite the lesser review scores and backlash from many, I think Bioware should not worry too much about such the negative response. Some areas need improvement, but don't kick yourselves because not everyone enjoyed it. Its their fault for not grasping the major theme in this game and franchise: Change. Keep doing what you do Bioware! :)

The reasoning behind not being able to play dress up with your companions is that they are meant to be your companions. People with their own lives, preferences and styles. Not drones that you can order to throw out the armor (or piratey short shorts) that they've always had in favor of whatever you just found in a box.

I can understand why it grates some people, but honestly, I always wondered why they were okay with playing barbie dress up every 10 minutes.

no its not.

i think if someone offered better armor in real life that prevented me from getting 2 hit by a high dragon id take it. they put on rings necklaces and belts that you give them but give them shirts and pants and you crossed the line.

the reason they did it was that they would have to model the armor  armound the people and it would take longer and cost more the same reason they recycled maps over and over again 100X worse so then in DAO.

You start in diffrent areas but every wearhouse is the same, all the caves have the same tunnels and all the hightown houses have the same layout, hell even people who like the game say this is anoying, they are all the same just sometimes diffrent doors are shut.

Ah. Crap. I think we might be wanting two different things out of this game then, which is why we disagree. :) I'm a huge reader, but RPGs are my lifeblood in gaming. I love it when they combine.

I loved DA:O a lot, trust me. But there were some tedious aspects that they wanted to remedy, and I agree with. Thing is, I've stopped playing MMORPGs because what I do with my freetime shouldn't feel like a chore. Especially in single-player games where no one sees the fruits of my labor!

I think the biggest reason people don't like the story is the absence of a main villain. Personally, I felt the Archdemon and Loghain were very "pure" evil. A guy got poisoned? Loghain did it! Duh! lol. To me, I crave more depth than that, and this game totally delievered in that aspect.

Again. The game isn't bad. But to me they already built up what DA should of been, and didn't follow it. From what I heard they did the same to ME2 (didn't play it because I didn't like the bit of it I played).

True, if any game is worthy of the "DUMBED DOWN!!" war cry, it was ME2. They removed a lot of features ... but I got to playing it, and I didn't care anymore. It was different, but it's still fun. The story and characters left me wanting, though.

Um, in Origins, none of my characters ever looked the same... and they all had awesome gear I found while I played.

There were only so many armor models. Maybe it's the girl in me, but having them all in the same armor is boring. Also, am I the only one sad with Morrigan's sex threads being replaced by grandma robes? That's what they didn't want to happen with the other characters. Their personality was lost in a clamor for better stats.

Good on you, OP. It takes guts to admit a change in opinion.

I really don't understand all the "dumbed down" arguments. They pop up in most every critique of the game, but never with any real evidence. Is it "dumb" to actually tell the player how attributes translate into combat values? Is a game guilty of catering to the lowest common denominator if it doesn't fill its talent trees with 50% useless jank? I don't think I crafted a single trap in my 100+ hours of DA:O, yet I'm supposed to miss all the steel shrapnel and glamour charms taking up inventory space.

If a given player doesn't like DA2, that's fine. Your preference is your own business. But if you say it's a bad game, you're straight up wrong.

This thread seems pretty tame actually. The little debate i'm having with said person whose name I do not remember seems to be going well. We both have different opinions and are backing them up with what we believe and what's in the game.

I enjoy the story - but I still have several critiques for the "game".

People are funny - supposedly (and I don't believe this) people do not like "Black and White" - but, either you hate it so much you pop a blood vessel just thinking about it - or you love it so much you're going to name your son Carver and your daughter Bethany.

I'm going to contribute my critiques (opinions) eventually - but I want to play it thoroughly before I do so. There are things I have changed my opinion of (I have grown more accustomed to the combat and found parts of it I enjoy for example.) but that doesn't mean I want to encourage some behaviors.

I'm no DA: 2 fanatic, not by a long shot. I still believe Origins to be the superior game on many levels (but again, that doesn't have to mean all or nothing) However, OP - kudos on changing your mind. Most people prefer to simply live in the illusion that they could not have ever been wrong (even if that wrong is jumping to a conclusion).

Oh, don't get me wrong! I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE story in RPGS. I can't actually play one with a story I can't get into. But for me, I CANT get into DA2 story. It seems... wtf to me. But to me, character and companion build the story. My decisions having a real affect build the story. I'v yet to see anything i'v done have any noticable, carable long term effects. All the dialog is either "good" "middle way sarcasm" or "IMA SKULL **** YOU". And there are never multiple options for each of them. In Origins, I could have 4-5 different things to say. Some were neutral, some were good, some were bad. Depending on the choices i'v previously made, in the story hours before and in said conversation, your choices change. Sometimes you end up with nothing but "IMA SKULL **** YOU".  This story just lacks to me. Like, the dalish elf girl (why can't i remembe rher name!!) is my favorite. Her dialog is always so hilarious and actually makes me feel like i'v encountered a character whose unique (i'd go as far to debate she out-classes most origin characters) because shes a mix between dalish harsh survival and childish nievity (if thats a word, lol).

As for armor models, the only two characters I had that looked alike were Zev and Liliana (and even she looked unique near the end). If you're going with the identical classes (like mages or all warriors) ya, they might look similiar. But even then, my mage, morrigan and Wynne never looked anywhere near the same. Alister and sten both wore massive armor and looked different, and my weapons never looked the same.

Here i'm wondering how any of my companions can wear... almost no protection and not DIE when an arrow is shot at my 70s pornstar dwarf with an open shirt and exposed chest.

And people are quick to assume Loghain was "evil". You can't blame a man for being so devoted to his own country that he becomes paranoid. By definition, he has a mental disorder, and near the end I remember fighting the arch demon with Loghain at my side, with my main character slashing down Genlock while my others fired upon the arch demon from afar. While a main villian would be nice, I find I got nothing to do but run around and do errands for everyone. This is one of the few RPGs where i'd be more then happy to massacre an entire city because everyones so ****ing uselessly boring. xD

But I agree, we do disagree because we have different opinions on what makes DA2 for us. :)
And what we expected from it.

Again, I don't hate the game because it sucks. I hate the game because it's lacking any real story. It's like "Ya... so.. go get money... so you can come on the expdition to get money... which you won't need because you earned it to come on the expidition.. so i'll leave without you if thats alright.".  Like, the start of the game could end at that point based on the dialog.

Ditto, OP. Ditto.

I was underwhelmed by the demo and was worried about the direction the game was heading in. But seeing as it was BioWare I gave them the benfit of the doubt, and so far so good, I'm 12 hours in and not started Deep Roads yet and enjoying the game.
