Admittedly I just started my second playthrough of DA2 going the templar route, but I had a thought. I've seen some people talking about how becoming Viscount doesn't feel like much of a reward since the position is typically dominated by the templars (probably less so with a world war going on now), but how would people have felt if the character could have become the new Knight Commander?
I know in the long run either way your character ends up disappearing off the map, but it was a thought I had after seeing a few posts. Would it have been more enjoyable to actually join the templars and then take over after killing Meredith?
Viscount or Knight Commander?

How do you become Viscount? I never had the option. Do you have to side with the Templars?

Yes, you have to side with the Templars to my understanding.

Don't bother too much about it Drasill, the only actual mention of it is an achievement after finishing the game (during the credit). You don't have a choice nor is it explicitly mentioned anywhere, but apparently it happens, for some reason.
