well i didn't know this and she was the only mage in my team, now she is gone and i am not going to do the deep roads from the beginning to change this.

If it's like Carver, she doesn't die until the end anyway so you should have both Anders and Merrill as mages for future trips.

Easy rule of thumb for DA2: Don't get too attached to any of the Hawke family.
Yeah...except for Gamlen, maybe. Stupid uncle. He did eventually say that he loved Leandra and that my Hawke was an ok kid, though. After, what, seven years? Idiot <_<

It was one of the biggest let downs of the game for me, I really liked having Bethany in my party.
Yeah, definitely. Especially after I played the demo with my warrior female Hawke and Bethany. I was like "Sweet, two sisters kicking ass and taking names. This will be awesome"
So I made a Warrior FemHawke for my first go round with the actual game and... =(
Double suck since Bethany was set up to do heals for me and I had already started speccing Anders for damage. Oh well.

Bethany felt awesome, but then the elemental spells are really powerful, especially in act one where her firestorm takes out entire groups in one shot. Can't really say if that level of power lasts until the last acts. Anders I was never impressed with, but then for my first playthrough I pretty much had my companions auto level up and didn't micro manage their stats or skills. But he was no where near as good a default healer as Wynne was in DA:O. Merrill started really getting good at the end, especially in her own survivability in hard fights. But yeah, I hope that Bethany is available in the DLC's that follow, as she is a great complement to my character's team.
just guessing but she does rejoin your group at the end. so i would say yes. mainly because we can be down one or no mages in the group if i remember right. i most playthru i just finish i had merrill but gutted anders

Actually, whether she is available or not is probably going to depend on your choices in the save game used for the DLC. If your character was a mage, she died in the prelude anyway and wouldn't be available. Similiarly, if she went with you on the Deep Roads and you didn't have Anders along to find the Wardens, she is dead as well.
IF she is a Warden, she may or may not be available to you in DLC. But in the option where she ends up in the circle of magi, and she supports you at the end, then she should be available to you from there on.

If you take Bethany or Carver with you to deep roads, they either die, or become Wardens if Anders is with you. If they do become Wardens, you get a chance to get them back at the end. If you leave them behind for the deeproads part, you lose them also, Bethany to the mage circle and Carver to the templars. Then it depends on which side you choose as to whether they come back at the end.
This is what I was thinking every time something happened to my family. I'm like wow what else can happen to my charcter
