What is the best use for Pull of the Abyss?

When I use pull of the abyss it seems to gather the enemies into its centre for like a second and then they kinda disperse.

I thought it was supposed to hold enemies in its centre for at least 4 seconds to give me time pull of an aoe spell. 

Is the talent worth it or should I just stick with Gravitic Ring?

Try pulling them in and then using gravatic ring immediately after casting pull of the abyss, that should reduce their movement speed, allowing you to hit them with aoe attacks.

I tried doing that and the enemies still fly in the different directions the moment they get pulled into the centre.

Right now it feels better to just set up a Gravitic Ring to intercept a rushing mob.

How come every time I use this spell, it seems like the enemies are immune to it? Mind you, I am using it on normal enemies. I find it more reliable to just throw down gravitic ring instead.

I am playing on hard and it works on some enemies although they are usually just critters or normals.

At this point I am seriously debating the usefulness of this spell.

Even if the pull only work against normal enemies, it's still quite fun to run into a group of street thugs or whatever, use Pull of the Abyss, Fist of the Maker in the centre, Sleep, Gravitic Ring and then Entropic Cloud. Nobody there is going anywhere.

Works on hard at least.  But yeah, as soon as you run into a spider or anything, that pull isn't going to do much of anything, the slow isn't good enough on its own to warrant the spell.

The first time I used this spell, I thought it was the greatest. After playing on hard, I realized it's really only good for setting up the fodder enemies for aoe annihilation. Gravitic Ring is incredible though.

Yeah Pull is a setup to hammer guys with other AoE effects. Love to run - Walking Bomb, Pull, Fist, Chain Lightening.....the fun never ends, at least untl the second wave shows up.

What I do is usually Pull of the Abyss, then quickly Fist of the Maker which stops their momentuum and keeps them grouped. Follow with Gravitic Ring then Hemorrhage, Chain Lightning and any other aoe.

I have found Pull of the Abyss to be a bit too powerful to use effectively with Gravitic Ring.

It is so powerful, that it sends some of the enemies flying past the area for the center of the gravitic ring.

I started using Pull of the Abyss simply to pull enemies away from me. (the effect is kind of like Varric's Kickback ability)

I will try the advice above to hit them with Fist of the Maker before casting Gravitic Ring.

Pull + Glyph of Paralysis is another useful combo. I usually cast Pull, then have Anders cast GoP at the same time and bam, 5 enemies are frozen to a standstill.

Another use is pull, run over and Cone of Cold. Then GTFO before the Archer's Lance, Bursting Arrow or Walking Bomb gets you.

This is a really good idea. Then follow up with AoE spell while they are stuck.

When I was force mage I used pull into the abyss then tried to follow up with fist of the maker, wasn't terribly effective though.

I always use Pull and Tempest (with Merrill) slightly after Pull so it hits enemies exactly as they get nicely together, which makes them and stunned, or slowed down. Follow this up with any AoE you wish, except for Telecinetic Burst.

My personal favorite is to use Isabela to throw Miasmic Flask on them and Sebastian's Hail of Arrows. If they survive this by any chance they get double Firestom.

Generally speaking, I use Pull of the Abyss, when I wana Roleplay.

I let the mobs rush me, and just before they get me, I use it behind them, and it flings them away from me, although technically, its not flinging, its sucking.

Its good for those times when u know a rogue is about to backstab you.

You might not be able to kill them before they stab you, but you might be able to knock them away.

Take, for example, Pull of the Abyss. With this one amazing little spell, you can:

- Cluster enemies for nuking

- Group enemies for a Cone of Cold BRITTLE to set up your Archer for Bursting Arrow

- Pull enemies into a detonating Walking Bomb

- Save your companions from being overrun

- Interrupt enemy attacks/heals

- SNATCH THAT **** ASS ASSASSIN OUT OF STEALTH (WHAT MOTHER****ER)

On my nuker I use it to pull Isabela, Carver, or Aveline out of my firestorms or gravitic rings.

Your warrior attacks, especially 2 handers, spread damage to nearby enemies. So it helps to group them up before Fenris smashes them with a mighty blow, then Fist of Maker them when they're staggered. It also interrupts their attacks to give you the early advantage.

Either of the pull spells can also be used to stop casters from casting, or just enemies in general from beating on people for a couple of seconds while your team recovers. Never cast it directly on a person, since it's effect will be wasted on that person, always move the targeting ring a bit to the side.

The reason they sort of spread out again is because, if you look carefully, the enemies are all knocked into each other in the center of the area, so the force of that knocks them slightly away again. However, it's still a very nice spell for packing those mobs in for some good AOE, either your other mage AOE spells or those of your friends.

By the way,is it a bug that aoe like inferno didnt unstealth assasins unlike the tooltip in the game said?
