At first I was like wow, I did not realise Varric was such a badass, And then when it flashed back to the present I had a good laugh. I'd almost forgotten thah he was the one telling the story.

Heh, I've done it a couple of times now, and always with Anders.
I guess I haven't seen what happens if you don't ask Anders to help yet. Might have to try that to see.
