For pretty much everything else, PC is the way to go.  Unless you have a crappy PC.  Your PC should be quite fine, although the video card may need a little upgrading soon.  The more RAM, the better, so you're pretty good to go with that.

The OP has a laptop.  Replacing the graphcis card is not an option

Well it would REALLY be nice if they would've added 360 Gamepad support to the PC version as well. Then the whole question would be moot. I've got a 24" monitor, so I can lay down on my couch and play Oblivion with a gamepad, however the controls for DA:Origins is alot more complex than Oblivion. I can't just use an emulator to set it up with my gamepad.

Maybe they'll patch it into the game one day? I don't know. I sure hope so, it would be GREAT if they did.

Why no company has ever tried to hire these talented player modders is beyond me.

Actually, I can't speak for Bethsoft, but Bioware has (and shall most likely continue to) recruit and hire modders from the modding community as full-time employees. For example, a number of modders from the NWN community were snatched up and some have been instrumental in Bioware's recent titles: http://www.bioware.c...ff_members.html

I have enjoyed playing on a PC that is at a lower spec than the one in the OP. I've also picked-up a console copy - just because.

PC - tends to be more "open" to mods, etc

Console - you can play on a huge screen

For myself, it's a matter of location. I can play my PC version on my laptop anywhere. My console version requires that I am with my console - but I get to play on a 1080P screen!

I will point out that IF you must play on a huge screen, most computers and laptops have HDMI outputs or adapters and you CAN hook it up to a television if you have a nice TV you want to play it on. I am a PC gamer though and can't say I disagree with the other PC backers.

Yay 1080p screen!  My 47" sure adds to the "immsersion".  I should move my Pioneer 360 surround sound out to the living room since I have taken it over with DA:O

Thanks for that link. I wasn't aware of modders being snatched up but it all makes sense. A lot of the huge mods have lost their modders to "other sources" and give over control of the mod to someone else. For example, there's a Martigen's Monster Mod for Oblivion(And Fallout 3 as well) but Martigen hasn't worked on it for 2 years. There has been a lot added since then to this mod with a whole team working together on it.

Kudos to Bioware for mining this rich talent pool. It's going to pay off for them.

I play DAO on high on my macbook so that says allot. Frankly, it all depends on comfort. I am at college and don't have an xbox, otherwise I would have gotten the xbox version because I think even though the pc version is more advanced, I am more interested in the story etc. The xbox version is a dumbed down and that appeals to me but to each his own.

My brother plays on the 360 and I play on the computer, so it's not much of an issue as to game time.

You should know, you are playing one of them now.

That is the problem with a laptop. it is hard to replace things like GPU's.

Ati 3200, no I would not risk it. Slideshow if it runs, nowhere near the decent xbox performance. Pickup a PC copy when you have a new pc. The mods are not going anywhere and after a year or more the best have surfaced to the top.

I can't personally testify to this, I'm running it on a PS3, but from a load of posts on this forum alone, despite the vaunted superiority of the PC verson, the PC version seems overly buggy. I haven't had any of the problems that seem to be quite common on the PC.

I find that the PC version BECOMES overly buggy due to user interference (having the Toolset installed, trying to change things, modding, running Windows ME, using a wired mouse, whatever).

That does not apply to all cases, of course, but it does account for a vast majority of issues people have.

^This.

Consoles are far more stable because they don't let users screw them up.

I was considering both PC and 360.

In the end, I got 360 version.

I'm v happy with it. Its all about the storyline. I agree - control interface on PC is likely to be better, and you get the mods. But frankly I'm busy, and can't be bothered to troubleshoot the PC version - the 360 version just works and works smoothly (though the interface takes a bit of getting used to). And the graphics are actually still more than adequate in my opinion...you stop noticing it after a bit. And you get to sit on a comfy sofa, and I just discovered that my newly wed wife actually enjoys watching me play this game! So much so that we spend most of this weekend on the couch playing DA:O and eating snacks. Can't do that on the PC - much more solitary experience! Though I havent tried getting frisky with Leilana or Morrigan yet...wife may have her limits ;-)

Why not just hook your PC up to a 47" 1080p TV?  Most graphics cards offer HDMI or DVI + Audio options.  There's no reason why you can't play the PC version on a big TV.  I do.

I know it's been told that the PC version of DAO is so much better than the console. I'm sold on the PC version already, but I don't know if my laptop can run it as smooth as my 360.

My computer specs:

AMD Turion X2 Ultra 64-bit Processor
4gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3200

I don't know if my graphics card is good enough for at least medium quality for smooth gameplay. If anyone is positive if my computer is good enough for the PC version, I would greatly appreciate it. I love Bioware games and I really need to know, PC or 360?

your laptop is fine. i have an amd athlon x2 dual core 2ghz with 3 gigs of ram and i can run it on middle settings. i have graphics on high, texture detail on high, antialiasing off and a mid range resolution and the game is very smooth. you can probably play on higher settings than me.

Yes, but what is your graphics card compared to mine? And you have a dual core processor, I don't know if the AMD Turion X2 is dual core.

I've got the 360 version and I'm happy with it, plus there's the comfort option (lying on/in bed playing it is better than sat at the PC).

That said, I'd rather have the PC version - there's something about playing with a keyboard and mouse that I like, plus as said there's going to be a massive modding community with this in a few months. When I get chance to upgrade, I'll be getting the PC version of this bad boy!

Your Turion is a dual core but the Turion is a slightly dumbed down processor to the Athlon chips. Your GPU is low end but as others have said it will run the game albeit at low settings and rather choppy frame rates at times.

Personally I would go for a console version. At lease then the game will run smooth with nice graphics.

I would say you have 3 options:

1) PC with current lappy and play with poor gaphics and frame rates but access to user made mods.

2) Console with descent graphics and frame rates but no access to user made mods.

3) Purchase a new lappy or PC with higher specs enabling you to play modern games at reasonable to good settings.

I bought the 360version but like everyone says being able to sit in your couch and play on a bigscreen like an interactive movie is much more appealing to me. I have enough games on my PC this one is too good to be crouching on a chair and a monitor screen for that long. That said it's probably easier to play on the PC than the xbox, I spent all of circle of magi playing the healer mage because it was the only way to live through boss fights due to the action oriented setup on the 360.

It's frieghtingly scary how similar it is to healing in wow lol. Once I've been through the story i'll get it for the PC just for the mods, patches and addons/expansions it's just more enjoyable to do the the first time in a couch and a wide screen tv

I would like downloading new content from other users, but I doubt that I'll make any content with the toolset.
