I'm in the Act 3 and doing the "Best Served Cold" quest for the First Enchanter. I encountered the group of Templars and Circle Mages and they attacked me saying that I am working for Meredith, even though I supported the Mages throughout the whole game pretty much, and I even got the achievement for siding with the Mages five times! I am working for the First Enchanter and every time I stumble upon this group they say I am working for Meredith! I talked to Karren (or however it is spelled) and I told him I supported ousting Meredith.

Then I went to the Wounded Coast for the next part of the quest and the Templar in chatge (forget his name at the moment) said, "Why are you working for Meredith? You even saved these Mages earlier!" I made it clear, AGAIN, that I was supporting them and wanted to get rid of Meredith. Then Grace, the girl I saved, attacks because I killed her master in the quest earlier in the game even though he didn't give me a choice.

On top of all that, at no point was there any way os resolving things peacefully! I wanted to pursue a path that lead to the Templars and Mages getting along, but that all got thrown out the window! I couldn't peacefully resolve the first or second encounters with the rebel group.

But I have to ask, did I miss something that could've resolved things peacefully and was it a glitch that caused the Mages and Templars to think I was working for Meredith, or did I do something wrong along the way?

A. Grace will hate you either way, she was always evil
B. They assume you're working for Merridith because of the previous missions for her chasing down mages and possibly because Grace has been poisoning their minds against you
C. I've heard there is a way to resolve it peacefully(I suspect it involves having killed Grace before)

It's impossible to kill Grace before, I think. The worst I could do was be very rude to her, and give her to the templars. Thrask helps her out, if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure you can choose to kill Grace along with the other Blood Mages in the cave instead of helping them escape or turning them over to the Templars. But killing them is ultimately siding with the Templars, so trying to oust Meredith later is just as contradictory as the situation in my first post.

Sometimes I feel like the writers at Bioware went on strike and they had to hire scabs to take their place. Seriously, Mass Effect had awesome writing about a space epic that involved some of the most amazing dialogue I've ever heard in a video game (the talk with Soveriegn), while Mass Effect 2 was about gathering a squad to fight an until-now-discovered tool of the Reapers that didn't expand upon the knowledge of Reapers from the first game (with the obvious exception of Legion). And, I could be wrong about this, I remember seeing the lead writer of Mass Effect 1 being "Drew Karpyshyn" and the lead writers of Mass Effect 2 being "Drew Karpyshyn and Mac Walters." I am not sure about the writing situation for Dragon Age, but I suspect the same.

Choo choo!

Of the most annoying sort. I hate to mock the game I enjoyed. But it is a grating element. I don't know why the railroad was built on these tracks, I only know that it exists. Is it a case of conflict balls getting tossed around to force the plot in a certain direction? (A revolt against Meredith? We can't have Mages and Templars working together! That's not the story I want to tell!) Or is it a case of simply case of running out of resources? (I don't think we'll have enough time and money to finish this up in a satisfactory manner, so let's just finish what we got.)
