There are a number of parallels between DA2's companion characters and companion characters in other BioWare games.

I've only played KoTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age, so I will compare them to the characters found in those games instead. It's been a while since I've played either Jade Empire or KoTOR, so my references to those games will be limited.

1. Merrill - She is Tali, Liara, and Mission Vao mashed together. She has Tali's grace, and Liara's social awkwardness (though that does go away in ME2) and fondness for the past, and Mission Vao's playful, carefree attitude on life. Her level of adorability also draws some parallels with Wild Flower.

2. Varric - Given his easygoing and streetwise nature, I find him remarkably similar to Garrus. Though admittedly, he isn't quite as angsty as Garrus is. Besides that, I can't seem to draw any other comparisons to Varric.

3. Isabela - On the surface, she is a female rendition of Oghren. Dirty jokes, lots of laughs, little else. Her rather cool nature also reminds me a little of Miranda as well. A Silk Fox comparison might not be too off-base, either.

4. Fenris - This guy reminds me a lot of Garrus, especially when he discusses his hate for mages and Tevinter Imperium. Garrus often said the same about criminals. His even tone of speaking also reminds a bit of Thane as well.

5. Carver - A mixture of Carth, Jacob, and perhaps Kaidan.

6. Sebastian - A mashup between Leliana, Samara, and Bastilia Shan.

7. Bethany - Reminds a little of the goody two shoes that Dawn Star was.

I can't think of any parallels for Anders, but in Awakening, he bore some resemblance of Alistair.

Do these comparisons ring true to you guys?

Ander's sarcasm reminded me of Alistair's.

I found that Hawke him/herself filled the role of Alistair a lot of the time, though a lot of that is due to my conversation choices.

A lot of the characters resemble oldschool Baldur's Gate companions, but that may have more to do with there being TONS of BG characters and only so many archetypes to follow...

Anders is an Alastair clone in Awakening though not so much in DA2

And Wild Flower was adorable? She was creepy as hell like an asian version of Regan from The Excorsist XD

Fenris also has some similarities to Alastair in that he doesn't let go of things that happen and broods on them for the whole game.

Merrill was a bit like Morrigan in that her magic and her nature is somewhat druidic. Although Merrill seems to have more experience communicating with trees while Morrigan communicated with animals.

Fenris is definately not like Garrus to me. Because if that was the case he would of been my favorite companion instead of my most hated. And I don't think Varric or Isabela compare to any other BW companions solidly, partially why they are my two favorite, I think your grasping at straws with those two. The rest I will agree with somewhat.

The two don't match up perfectly, that's right. I'm not saying that Garrus is anything close to Fenris, but rather, the two share a few parallels.

I don't see the Garrus/Fenris connection whatsoever. They are both my favorite companions in both games, but for very different reasons.

I did not see a Tali in Merril whatsoever. Tali was annoying and all I didn't really found her cute or something. I did not like her at all, While Merril was great, she was not as annoying, but was very cute at the same time... And she had her blood magic and demon things, heh. Not that innocent of a puppy when you think about it.
