Dude the patch will probably take ages, and even if they release a patch i dont think that our charas can be saved since its a savedata problem. The only way i can see our charas saved its if bioware made a free dlc item (like the presents in DA,O) that restarts all your stats, something like the Maker's breath.

Ok i was wrong sorry. normal save has the same bug that has autosave, so turning autosave off wont work...
I dont know why but when you load the freaking skill always shows up again even if you dont have Sebastian with you.......

yup the patch will take forever but i can wait. If it doesn't then it then ill just force myself to push on. I'm not gonna restart the game over when i finally got to the final act (first and only play-through i will do)so turning off autosave wont work. On the bright side sebastion is my rival so that buff didn't affect me

a temporary solution until a patch does get released is to just, as I've said before, equip items that increase attack speed and activate sustained talents that do the same. It is a gamekiller for me too, but not one that can't be worked around until the fix it.

@The Ethereal Writer Redux
That solution might work for Rogue but not Mage... :(
Mage does not have speed boosting sustained talents, while speed buffing accessories are usually not beneficial for the Mages...

The way to stop the bug (but not get your stats back) is to go to your home when you have it, then leave your house and the buff will be removed from your talents but it will comeback if you reload unless you use the item that restarts your stats. Once you use the Maker's item your savedata will be clean.
Sadly you will lose the -5% of the buff, but its the only way i found to stop the buff being in my talents everytime i load.
But trust me guys, a -5% is a lot better than my -50%. I wish i knew this before....
You can use a ring or something to get rid of that -5% Attack speed or damage res.

First thank you to all the gamers out there helping others to not suffer this problem or to work around it.

After about 4 hours of beta testing this game today without pay to find out the core issue regarding "thumbs up", I have found an answer.

I had a save on Act 1 right before Isabella became my friend (5 minutes before) so I used that to do all my testing. After befriending her I recieved the "thumbs up" bonus as expected so I proceeded to the next steps.

1. Went to Merrills house and switched isabella out of my party. Saved then reloaded to find out I did not have the bug. Then I went to hawkes house checked to see that I did not have her bug, reloaded the autosave (entering the house) and still did not recieve this bug.

 2.  Reloaded Merrills house save (still no thumbs up and she is not in the party) put Isabella back in the party (thumbs up is in abilites screen) then went to hawkes house. Checked status within the house and the thumbs up was still there. So upon exiting the house I put Isabella back in the party went to merrills house, switched Isabella back out, saved then reloaded the save. Save reloaded isabella is not in the party no bug.

3. Repeated all steps in step 2 until "then went to hawkes house". Checked status again and yes isabella thumbs up is there, saved then reloaded the save. Isabella thumbs up is still there. Went back to merrils house with isabella still in party, switched her out then saved and reloaded. Thumbs up bug is there.

4. What caused the bug to start? Reloading a save while Isabella's thumbs up is active inside hawkes residence? Really now ok beta tester lets test this out without pay.

5. Misson "Birthright" in darktown outside anders clinic after step "2". Isabella is in party, saved and then reloaded switched her out saved in then reloaded and no bug. Remember this is right after step 2 so I have not produced the bug yet.

6. Go inside the mission "birthright" (the cellar) with isabella in the party (with no party bug yet) it autosaves. Reload the auto save within the mission, leave mission the go back to darktown next to anders clinic, switch out isabella then save. Reload save (isabella is not in party) and bam thumbs up is there. So what produced the bug? Reloading the autosave inside the mission did it.

7. Did it really? back to step "5". Outside outside anders clinic. Saved with Isabella in the party, reloaded save then switched her out. Saved again then reloaded with no thumbs up bug. Went inside the mission "birthright" without isabella in the party and it auto saves. Reload the auto save checked the ability screen and NO Thumbs up BUG. Left mission back to darktown, saved again reladed save still no bug with this woman not in the party.

8. Ok beta tester you are pretty good...how about you complete the mission with isabella in the party (start of step 5 have not produced bug). Now this misson at the end of it basically forces you to go to the hawkes estate to confront you're uncle. Ok sounds like a plan....completed misson after the convo in hawkes house I check the abilites screen to see thumbs up. Went to merrills house switched isabella out, saved then reloaded...no thumbs up bug.

9. But how?? Was it because you did not save or reload that save within a mission or hawkes place? Yes. Ok what if you went to the wonded coast with isabella in the party, saved, reloaded and went to the docks at day switched her out and reloaded. Would you get the bug then? Yes. Why?

10. If you Reload any save that is inside a mission, hawks resdience, Kirkwall at night or outside the city (sundermount wounded coast) you will recieve the bug with isabella in your party. You can save with her in you're party and not recieve the bug anywhere in kirkwall during the day, merrill and fenris house, darktown. I tested this to death do us part...like you know a free beta tester.

11. Isabella is not in my party right now after I completed the birthright mission. I have no thumbs up bug either after having multiple reloads after saving with her not in the party. You can save AnyWhere at anytime "without" her in the party and not recieve this bug.

Please post this on the PC/360 fourms because I cannot post there (ps3 baby). Have a great and wonderful night!! Hope you enjoyed the show.Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

Okay. I check the PC thread on this issue because I figure Bioware will speak to them first. I was right.

This was posted overnight:

Peter Thomas wrote...

Ok, maybe I shouldn't comment on this, since I'm not the one fixing it, but I also think a little explanation is deserved.

According
to the last information I had, it seems like the Maker's Sigh, follower
player bonuses, and item sets bugs are actually all symptoms of the
same issue. The game saves out the ability list incorrectly, leading to
corruption. Those particular bonuses are abilities, which is why they
show up on your ability screen.

We are testing a fix. I haven't been able to reproduce it personally after the fix, and QA is testing more thoroughly.

The
fix of making Thumbs Up have a bonus of 0 doesn't actually fix the
underlying problem, it just makes it have no consequences.

As our intrepid friend Bloodyraw found out through his testing, it's connected to saving. Right now I'll take the fix that just makes it not work. As I've said, I can live without the buffs.

Ok I just got affected by it, the Sebastian one. It seems like it only happens on level up.
My damage resistance was fine, until I leveled up, then all of sudden my damage resistance is -5%.

Did you have the skill even when he wasn't in your party?
If you did then load a old save (If you had one) and try using the Maker's breath before you level up and see if
the skill gets removed. If it dosn't try having Sebastian in your party when you lv up and see if you get -5% again please.

yea you have the skill when hes not in your party, you see it in your ability screen. I havent tried using the maker's site yet.
I was doing Varric sid emission, Family Matters without Sebastian.
When I started the mission my damage resistance was 0%, I leveled up midway through the mmission and check my resistances, my Damage Resistance is -5%.
THats why I think people are saying they are in extreme slow mo in ACt 3. I thinkk the affact adds on every time you level up, so it gets worse and worse.

EDIT: Maker's sight does NOT fix the problem

Nah leveling is not the problem, the problem is when your savedata is bugged so everytime you load you get the skill without having Sebastian/Isabella in the party, so the next time you leave your home or the story removes your party you will get a -%5.
I tested a lot of stuff all night and leveling never made me lose -%5.
And dude try it again because Maker's sigh stops the bug from coming again (if you dont bug it again) if you do what i posted.

I just wish we had some way of repairing the damage already done. I don't give a **** if Isabela or Sebastien's bonuses don't work properly, I just don't want to be stuck in slomo ALL THE FREAKING TIME.

I think the problem might be that you already had the bug? ULTIMAHUNTER describes how to avoid it, but it's not a fix for an already bugged save. That's up to Bioware..

That's because like i said this is only to stop the bug and remove the buff from your talents.
It wont fix the damage that's already done sorry.

Wow... I created an account because this glitch has basically ruined my game and I really feel the need to vent (and to hopefully be heard, along with the other ton of people screwed over by this).

BIOWARE, THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM and resolving it should be an absolute priority! IT RENDERS THE GAME UNPLAYABLE. Not to mention that even if I were to start a new character, I would still be playing an incomplete game because I wouldn't be able to pursue a friendship with Isabella or Sebastian (nor the respective romances)! I find it incredibly unprofessional that this game has been out for over two weeks and the only help received is from fellow players. We paid for a complete game, not a 'super demo' that crashes halfway through. PLEASE RESOLVE THIS ASAP.

super demo sounds harsh. i would call it "dragon age 2 beta". tested by us the paying customers. and even then, a gamebreaking glitch like this should be patched up ASAP.

mass effect 3 will be the LAST bioware game i buy on launch(or ever), and thats only because i wanna finish up the trilogy.

It seems more and more people are having this slow-mo issue..It's been almost 2 weeks after the game was released, and it's been a week since this issue was posted on the forum, when will the patch be ready? :/

It is pretty sad how long it's taking.

The only reason I came to these forums was because of this issue. When they first replied the day this thread was started, I had high hopes it would be a decently quick fix. Unllike some people I know also playing who choose basically the same three characters all the time no matter what, I like using everyone for what seems like appropriate quests for them. The fact that I cannot have the freedom to do so, or romance who I choose, has killed my ability to play this game past Act 1 thanks to this slowdown bug.

Now unlike others in all three threads on this issue, I don't care whether or not the fix would be retroactive for a current play through. I'm gonna start over no matter what since I've lost all rythem with my current game. I just want some sort of fix that lets me play freely. Not some stupid, unproven gimmic that doesn't really work. Even if I had the PC version, I wouldn't be messing around with the files.

I'm a Bioware fan all the way back to Neverwinter and KotOR, so I want to stay a fan and have them finally fix this and other things that should have been picked up during quality control anyways.

Also, speak to us here, Bioware. Don't just speak to the PC people. We're part of your consumer base, too. We may be the smaller percentage of the base, and our patch may end up coming down the tubes slower because of Sony's issues with that kind of thing, but please include us. Some of us may be reading the PC threads at the same time, but it would be nice if we got some interaction, too.

Let's just hope that the patch will be retroactive as many of us have been many hours into the game (60h in my case) already. I'm in a very special moment in this game right now and I cannot move on without the patch even on the easiest difficulty setting where I normally play on hard so it's really uncool.

Hey, I feel ya. I'm around the 40hr mark in Act 3, and I don't want anyone to have to replay the entire game if they don't have to. But if it ends up being a choice between a fix right now that makes it playable but is not retroactive or waiting another month for a retroactive fix...I hope they choose the now fix.

Better to at least be able to start playing a new game glitch free than sitting around being pissed off for another month.

Ya i hope they fix it now! or atleast within a week the other glitches are durable but this one needs to be fixed cause it effects a major part of gameplay.!!!! my powerful mage is now a slow still powerful but sloth like mage....thhe enemy can do so much to me before i cast!!!!!!! Please Bioware get on that horse and fixed it! im not going to finish the story till it is! i want to finish the story as a powerful character not a slow sluggish one....
The dual with the Arishok was fun but thanks to my slow castin i had to run around avoiding him a good part of it
