Seriously, Bioware? I can understand getting spam e-mail in ME2, but this just seems ridiculously out of place. Not to mention that you've already done that joke.

ME3: "Docking systems experiencing mechanical failure? Does your thresher maw die after a few minutes of Krogan pea-shooting? Does your collector laser fail to even pierce a quarian environmental suit?"

TOR: "Is the Force no longer with you? Do women mistake your moon for a space station? Do your proton torpedoes fail to reach the reactor core?"

DA3: "Is your pumped-out sequel unable to penetrate the hearts and minds of consumers? Do your efforts to produce something big come out looking pretty half-assed? Does nothing awesome happen when you hit the A button?"

Etc.

Yea, found it pretty dumb.

Especially the second spam letter.

This was one of the dumbest things in DA2. I mean, it's kinda funny in ME2 because it's an e-mail and what-not. But in Dragon Age? Spam? What the eff?, does some guy write hundreds(or more) letters about totally stupid crap and then sends it to random people? Really?!

Or one could have a sense of humor about medieval spam.

Spam existed before the internet, you know.

I think anyone born before the internet knows about chain letters, most claiming they're trying to break a record that's been banned for a good thirty years.

The entire mail system felt like an actual module transplant from ME2. I was not just the same jokes, but also the hear-warming "where are they now" follow-ups.

I like mail as a quest disbursing strategy. It saves me from needlessly running around many areas looking for new "!". I think they could have mixed it up a little though to actively avoid creating a "Dragon Effect" feeling in players though,

I found humour in the absurdity of the letter. The idea of spam mail in the dark ag--dragon age made me chuckle.

Do you really think those vendors were making thousands of copies of letters about their products (which would need to be written by hand) and sending out couriers to deliver them to every literate male in town? It's the concept of medieval spam that I don't think fits in the setting, not the idea of people peddling fake cures. And as I said, they'd already used the joke in ME2, so it's even more pointless to throw it in DA2.

Well if they put in so much effort the product must really work. :D
Anyway it's just a joke, hardly immersion breaking.

I believe Spam is only for the internet. Or canned meat, but thats a different story.

When it comes in physical form they call it junk mail.

I saw the classic _____ needs help open your bank account mail and chuckled.

Can't beleive people get offended over little tongue in cheek jokes. These kind of things are what makes games great. Blizzard does this all the time.

I guess this is why Fallout Vegas made me waste a talent point to see easter eggs. Because seeing the hidden funny things in a game just devastates the immersion of people. Heaven forbid they laugh during their grim dark epic filled with blood misery and black sorrow bleeding black blood into black tears to fill the blackness of their black hearted black heart or whatever surreal crap they need to surround themselves with 24/7. Curse of Greyface at its finest.

No, no. It IS funny, but 1) It was already exactly like this in Mass Effect and 2) IMO, it just doesn't fit the whole setting.

In the end, I just facepalmed a little and moved on. Like I said, if it wasn't for the setting and the fact that they just sort of copy pasted it from ME2, I would have laughed.

You've never heard of chain letters?

I'm pretty sure the Dragon Age world has at least invented the printing press.

Highly doubt it; all the books/tomes appear to have been scribed by hand.

Jokes about enhancing the size of one's member or keeping it up longer never get old. Why? Because the desire to be bigger and last longer is part of human nature. You can see these types of ointments and treatments popping up in ancient India, China, and Egypt.

Spam stands for Spiced Ham. It's made from pigs.

And I disagree that it's nasty. I had spam sushi that was remarkably not nasty.
