Is ther somewhere to buy or somehow to produce this stuff in quantity? It is needed for so many things, like repairing the buggy or opening boxes that you can't otherwise. The obvious answer would be to crush some items into the gel, but as the game progresses you no longer find cheap items. Right now I only find level V and VI equipment and it feels such a waste to crush a gun worth 5,000 credits into only 4 omnigel points!
Opening the typical box costs 25 gel. This represents crushing 7 items. If they cost on average 5,000 credits, opening that box cost you 35,000 credits!!!!! Only to find 3 other items of the same worth. Net loss.
Of course you can resolve the puzzle. I'm sick to death of doing that puzzle, but I have resorted to saving before every attempt and reloading until I can open the box successfully, because doing it with omnigel is not really an option. Why can't it be that if you have the skill, you can open the box, period? Man!
And repairing the buggy. There's no way around it, it costs gel. And apparently there aren't any mechanics aboard the Normandy, if you take up a damaged vehicle, it will still be damaged next mission. (Same as with poisoned characters, unless you spend medigel they will still be poisoned next mission... What's that doctor doing aboard then?)

Don't worry too much about value... soon enough, you'll reach a point where there's just too much loot and not enough stuff worth buying and you'll have maxed out your credits. Don't be shy about omni-gelling stuff you don't need, even if it seems like an expensive gun or suit of armor.
There's plenty of money around to buy the stuff you want when its available in a shop.

Ah...memories.

I always find myself omnigelling everything anyways. I'll leave the Citadel and do all possible sidequests and never think to sell the crap I find on the Normandy and get over encumbered. Then I remember when I finally decide to go to Feros or Therum and still always get hundreds of thousands of credits, despite how much I gelled in the beginning.
