I'm curious to know how the two interact.

Point in question, I have a bow that deals fire damage, but I have a few pieces of gear that increase physical damage dealt.

When does the conversion to fire damage occur?
Is damage calculated as if the bow were any normal bow but then at the end changes all of it's damage to fire, therefore allowing items with the bonus physical damage property to effect the elemental damage the weapon deals.

Does it even ''convert'' at all? Is damage modifier to the elemental weapon restricted to class attribute and +element specific damage?

Just wondering if I need to change out the gear with +physical damage and wear mage gear with +fire damage.

If anyone knows, or if there is a dev still lurking around that can answer this, any info would be appreciated.

Edit:

Forgot I have a 2h mace that does the same thing, to electricity.

But it has a +10% PD mod on it, so the first case (damage is converted to the element at the "end") makes sense.

I had the same questions as you, when i bought "Sundering" (electrical hammer). Hope the +%physical gear still works with this hammer

I do not think there is a conversion but I am not 100% sure on that. The Jackal deals straight fire damage so the physical damage modifiers are probably ignored. There is a ring sold by the mage vendor on the wounded coast that adds +24% fire damage. It is expensive but worth it as it also give immunity to stuns. Given an archer's high damage output, that 24% is very significant.

That's exactly what I'm trying to find a definite answer to.
I have seen elsewhere that +elemental gear works with elemental weapons, however, is +physical damage gear completely useless when using a bow that deals fire damage?

The short answer to that is yes.
There's a great post about it by IN1 building an elemental archer using fire increasing items:

What about skills that do physical damage? Wouldn't those benefit from +% physical items?

        Sundering
38 electricity damage (62 per second)

+6% critical chance
+16% critical damage
+10% physical damage
+5 mana/stamina regeneration rate

It has been shown that wearing items that have +electricity damage should increase your output with this weapon.
However, there is also the +10% PD mod on the weapon. Trying to figure out if it is a "trash" modifier that doesn't effect damage dealt, or if +PD increases weapon damage (for a rogue or warrior) while using a weapon that deals elemental damage.

It would make SENSE that it WOULD increase damage done, as how the mod appears on an elemental melee weapon, but there are other items in the game that are poorly itemized (such as blood mage staves with +mana regen, or the hawke mage armor that requires WIL to use, punishing you statwise if you want to go blood), and again, I am curious as to how the two interact.

Not a dev, but the way it seems to work for me... +PD increases physical damage done. If your weapon does elemental damage, it does not benefit. So that modifier only helps if you have abilities that do physical damage. Kinda dopey.

That seems to be the case. Physical is just another kind of damage class.

Indeed. As for modifiers, there is a lot of infuriatingly useless +X% dmg modifiers in this game. A physical damage bow with no rune slots having a +12% spirit dmg trumps it all, I think.

See, that would be excuseable if the loot was RNG based like D2, but when they are all premade?
/facepalm
Arishock is not amused.
