Just realized this a few minutues ago and have been checking around to see if anyone else noticed it to as well.

So far I seem to be the first.

When you get a drink at the bar in the hanged man Hawk uses the EXACT same drinking animation that Shepard uses in ME2. He even pulls away from the counter the same way.

Thats not an Easter Egg. If you pay close attention almost ALL of the character animations outside of combat are shamelessly ripped straight from ME2. Body animations, facial animations, the whole 9.

The areas arent the only things copy and pasted in this game.

It's obviously not a shout-out to Mass Effect what it really is is another sign that DA2 is just Dragon Effect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad someone noticed. Need to start pulling examples from both games and get an explanation from Bioware about it. Just seems.... lazy. It's something that may have slipped past if the game had been better and people wouldn't mind, but in the frenzy of negativity surrounding this game it's just another short cut taken and makes people wonder what they actually spent time on.

They pretty much took the game mechanics from Mass Effect and added a Dragon Age twist to it such as icons for emotions. I pressume it was to save both money and time in developing / upgrading the Origins system to make shiny and new specifically the timeline aspect of production slot allocated to the mastering and release. The ME1/2 system seemed to be accepted by the customers due to how popular that series is so probably thought would do no harm to use it in DA2.

Whether you view that as a good or bad thing thats up to each individual person to decide, as for myself I think it's ok it does the job, preferred Origins one but DA2 one is acceptable to me I'm playing fine with it currently.

Sounds more like lazyness.. anyway those animations looks good so why not. They better recycle those animations instead of doing something worth of Two Worlds 1.

Only issue I have is when drinking anything the characters still look like morons. If you drank like they do in RL you would have one hell of a wet floor and shirt since they don't open their mouths, then again no substance comes out so maybe they like sucking empty bottles and glasses. Must be an easy life to be a barman in DA/ME universe because people buy refreshments to look at the bottom of mugs or bottles at least saves on having to buy stock of actual booze.

Hawke: "I would like to buy a mug please."
Barman: "Coming right up."
Hawke: <looks into mug> "Thanks, looks good both clean and empty just the way I like it."
Barman: "Your welcome, want another look?"
Hawke: "Sure why not heres 20 silver."

it's not an easter egg, it's developer lazyness, they can't create something unique anymore, so they copy everything between each other game, all of the animations are Mass Effect rip offs

The talkative man in the Hanged Man was more an easter egg than anything...and he perfectly reflects the flamers here on these boards.

It's oddly interesting that he reflects us, but he was in there before the game came out. So they knew it was going to happen, and didn't care.

My personal favorite was an ambient guy in the Hanged Man who said something along the lines of - "Doesn't it seem like everything is so much less complex these days - like combat, for example." Made me laugh at all the people who whine about hack and slash.

Yes! Their heads look like Geth heads. I'm glad someone else thought that.

Yeah. Or maybe people were moaning about oversimplification and whatever long before the game came out?

For everyone saying that BioWare is being lazy, you all need to remember that EA rushed them to put out DA2 faster. Who's to say they would have cut any corners if they had more time to make this game?

Heh, heh. "Encounter a new age of great animations and cinematic!"
wat
I'm not bagging on DA2, it's great, I really like it, but they're making stuff (and the game was rushed) that's already been used. :/

EA did this, not Bioware.

I like the easter egg towards the end of the game, where you find a (presumably mage body) with a request for a rod of fire.

The drinking animation works.  Why fix something that's not broken.

Some people really find the smallest things to complain about.

My female Hawke pees in the same position as my female Shepard... unacceptable!

This.  It's not as if it's "stealing," the animation was made by the same company.  I didn't even notice many animation crossovers, and I've played hundreds of hours of ME2.

Reusing minor resources like idle animations and drinking animations seems like a sensible option to me. Saves time and money. They also reused a few audio assets too like ambient noises. I noticed some sounds around the Docks and Low Town were from NWN and some of the quieter ambient music was from Awakening.

I personally don't have any issue with this because they mixed them up a bit.
