Hated Carver, the mother I liked, and when Bethany died in my second playthrough in the Deep Roads I restarted a third time just to make sure she lived through the game, I loved her. Luckily I was able to keep her alive for the whole game the third time :D

I didn't mind...wanted to falcon punch the uncle though. The thing that really pissed me off was the mother quest....wished Hawke showed more emotion there...

Didn't feel anything for Carver but was extremely upset the templers took Bethany. Also I got very upset they killed off the mother. At least Bethany rejoined in the final fight if you chose mages.

Who wanted to throw them off the nearest cliff or feed the lot of them mother and sister and brother to the troll at the beginning in retrospect.

Bethany always comes across as moaning and stuck up the brother arrogant and annoying and the mother moppey and depressing...

Or is it just me. Posted Image

Same kinda.
The mother is just a whiny ungrateful snob.
Carver is just a total moron from the very first second. I'm convincing myself over and over that me clicking the left mouse button during that scene made my character actually push him to the Ogre.
Bethany isn't that bad...until she betrays you, then I just killed her anyway.

I haven't played with Carver yet but when Bethany died I was just speechless in an shock for a couple of seconds. But when Leandra died that really hit me, partly because I liked her and partly because it was so gruesome and creepy what they did to her and when she talked as that frankenstein monster.

When mum died, I wanted a conversation option to have my Hawke break down in tears, and then, consumed in a burning rage at the loss of her entire family, murder every single templar and mage left in Kirkwall in a sea of blood and fire. Needless to say, this WASNT a conversation option. However I am going to play this out somewhat in my next playthrough. Hawke will start out as an idealist and as the losses mount and the pressure builds, will slide through cynicism directly into outright hatred and aggression. It should be fun, because the game's conversation system seems to support it fairly well unlike Mass Effect where you were stick picking pure paragon or pure renegade to access many of the important crisis resolutions.

I really enjoyed the family and grew quite attached quickly. They responded like normal people would. There was sibling rivalry, mom was trying to hold it together when her whole world was shattered. And let me tell you there is NO loss more painful than a parent losing a child. so yea I can see her being just a wee bit upset. Anger is a part of the grieving process, as is denial. I think that entire family was very well written, very believable for a fantasy setting.
Despite everything, you get the feeling that they loved one another too, even the **** brother.
I still think he was less angry at being a templar than a warden but I think that was because as horrible a choice as it was, it was still HIS choice, not something he was forced into. I found Gamlen humorous and as the game progressed and it was down to just him and Hawke, he softened up. Plus, he has Teagan's voice, what can i say? That won me over.
Dysfunctional, yea but who in the game (aside from Varric and Aveline) didn't have some brand of crazy?

I liked Bethany. I wasn't happy when she had to go to the Circle, so I restarted it to see the other result. Naturally I let her join the Circle after that. Carver I'm not sure, maybe that's because so far he hasn't gotten further than the ogre. Leandra was alright to me, but when that damn psycho mage came around... Lets just say I wasn't particularly happy about him. Gamlen I just wanted to hit sooo much whenever he talked..

I haven't finished a play through with Beth yet, but I think she's a sweetheart. I loved how Carver felt so deeply insufficient. I felt that was realistic that not everyone was going to be happy for Hawke's success. I was also pleased to see him join the Templars, because, you know, drama! I was so sure I was going to have to kill him in that final fight, too. Glad he saw reason. And I flat out cried a bit during Leandra's death. It was just so twisted and grisly and wrong.

I love dem Hawkes.

I am the complete opposite. I loved the entire family, which is why it hit me quite hard when I lost them.

This. I didn't really get to know Bethany, but I'm sure she'll break my heart just as much as Leandra and Carver did once I finally play a non-mage.

I loved Carver. I just simply don't understand why so many people dislike him. I understood where he was coming from from the start and only ever felt sorry for him. I thought in spite of his sour attitude it was obvious he cared for Hawke, even at the beginning.

I loved the way he grew and how much he had changed and matured in the end. I loved him and wanted to hug him. :(<3

I totally agree with you! He ended up a Grey Warden in my playthrough and seemed like he finally fit somewhere. And after the scenes in Act 2 (Grey Warden meeting before the Arishok fight) and 3 (Nathaniel quest) I wanted to give him a gigantic bear hug! Posted Image

I adore Bethany, I think she's the ideal little sister, where Carver is supposed to be a big pain in the ass, but I love how that plays out as well. I think the family dynamic was one of the best written parts of the game.
