If this game wasn't called Dragon Age 2, would the reception be better?

If the story was acually good and the game acually lasted more then 25 to 30 hours i would have been happy. but the story was like they picked out diff chapters in a hat at random and said lets go with that dragon age 2 story made little to no sense. It was boring it felt as if you accomplished nothing in the game, the ending was so stupid lol and if you play again theres no way to get a different ending i mean any choices you choose just revolves around the same path, Did they really expect this game to be good or did they know it was gonna be a pile of garbage

You all have to remember, that there can be NO different ending....what we are playing in DA2 is THE PAST. Actions that have already occurred and that are being retold by Varric. All that metters in the DA2 is HOW we got to that point.

DA:O we played the present.....and had some very limited choices that would effect the future of the DA world.

time is no excuse, Alpha Protocol made a similar interogation told story and at the end everything told (decisions made) during the game became important, if DA1 and countless other Bioware games were able to allow more choices and options to influence the world I don't see why DA2 shouldn't

From story telling point of view there is no difference between present and future.  Just like reading Harry Potter you are not in the present or the future.

In the story Harry Potter is living in the present, but that is within the story, and only in regards to that character.  The Author can easily forward to the "future" and then play out a scene, and revert back to "the present" or "past".  It is not to be confused with the framework .

It is like the Ghost of Christmas Past and Present, time is not really a determinant to outcome in Storytelling.

Ok, ok, ok. Too much stupid here:
NEWS FLASH:
Back in the Days of DA:O, it was said that the Dragon Age saga was NOT about the Warden or the Blight, but about the many many stories happening within the "Age of the Dragon".
Thus, the game could be about a Cabbage farmer who found a shard of the fade and became superman could be called Dragon Age III if it hapened during the "Age of the dragon".

  You still think people's complain about DA2 is because it is not about the warden or the blight?

I might not be far
enough into DA:2 but to me the lack of continuity of choices carried over from
DA: O is what catches my attention.
While slightly disappointed that characters can’t be continued part of what
made playing DA:O several times through  was to see what the different endings /
different choices would bring to the next game.
Right now there doesn’t seem to be much connection between DA:2 and DA:O
to me which is disappointing based the concept sold at the start of DA:O.  To me DA:2 falls somewhere between DA:O and
Diablo.  Both are fun games but they’re
worlds apart.
