(or is she just this game's Leliana?)

So my Hawke hasn't been particularly nice to Merrill, insofar as he's always shutting her down about the blood magic. She finally brought up the Eluvian in the room (I had really been meaning to ask about that, but I suppose Hawke wouldn't have known the significance) and so we go off to Sundermount to get a relic or something so she can do weird dalish stuff to it. The Keeper warns me that letting Merrill work on the evil mirror of doom would be bad, and I agree, so I don't give her the knife whatever. She gets mad at me, says I'm stealing her heritage, blah blah blah.

I stop by her place afterwards, she gets all mad again yells at me, I again tell her no on the evil mirror thing, she tells me to pike it and kicks me out. I get the "Rival" achievement from that conversation. I figure I'm pretty much on the outs with her, and I'm OK with that.

Later on, I'm chilling at the Hawke nest, and Merrill suddenly turns up, she's all "I phrased that badly", or something like that. I'm all "sounded pretty clear to me", she gets all blustery, I relent a little, picking conversation options where I don't hate her, but I refuse to condone or abet blood magic. Then she's suddenly almost crying (and the camera jumps around a bit more than usual) and says like "Don't save me, Hawke" and I've got an "I do want to help you" option and a rather harsh "I don't so much care about you as how it affects me" sort of option.

So I go with the "I do want to help", and flash cut to Hawke throwing her on the bed. I'm all "?!?!?!?!" and Hawke is scoring some criticals with the no handed weapon and I'm all "Were they reading a different dialog tree than I was?".

So there we are in the after and she's all "I love you Hawke" and I'm like "seriously, no" and then she gets all mad and leaves, and I'm still like "what just happened?". Now I figure Isabella is pretty open minded but thats still going to be an odd conversation, "Seriously babe, I didn't want to, the dialog options were misleading".
