Hello everyone,
With the much anticipated game being released only a short week ago I had the pleasure of completing the game with only 65% achievements and only on normal including the exiled prince extras in 37 hours and 32 minutes. Here are a few things I had to say about it:
Combat:
- Without giving any spoilers away I must say the battle system has been improved upon with the fluid transition from attack to special ability to a new enemy without any of that xbox lag that goes with quick responses I've encountered in the first game.
- Although tactics were barely even touched with my playthrough the options weren't as expansive and sometimes wasn't even followed for some of the combat. I had Anders in my party as a healer and his basic tactics were healing and for 75/50/25% of health of an ally he was slotted to heal. Which, he didn't unless I switched to him and told him to. Which in heavy combat on higher levels of difficulty this gets rather troublesome.
- On a positive note, I really liked exploding bodies when I absolutely destroyed an enemy with a swing of my blade.
Graphics:
- I noticed when playing in excess of 5 hours every now and then the color and build of NPCs roaming around the city were colorless (white) and without defining features. Which normally led to freezing of the game when I tried to transition to different parts of the city. I do however very much love the details of the city and how close to real it is to a real kingdom in times of struggle and strife.
Character relations:
- the friendship or rival is a good add on/change to the meter, however when anders kissed me and I had to break his heart because I didn't want him dying or doing something foolish (which in part to me didn't seem really warrant sex, especially I chose every peaceful option and nothing with a heart.) I was alittle worried. Again when I sexed up isabella and she stepped so far there was no coming back after some hopeful options to gain brownie points.
- Fenris had me confuse from the start. Going further would on'y give spoilers that I don't want to provide.
Featured options:
- Good choices and varied too. I do like some side quests affecting your main quest and vice versa.. I perhaps was dreaming it though hahaha.
- The complexity of the many situations I encountered made it VERY hard to maintain the position I was trying to stick with, but in the end I did. However there were probably a few parts that I could've chose differently.
- I have to be honest here. What depressed me and thought it was a downgrade from the original was the ability to choose race and customize your character. In the original I was an City elf who became a mage with abilities that of a warrior. In DA2, you were a warrior and your talents were thus. No diversity, why couldn't a warrior know magic? Or why couldn't a mage wield a sword? I didn't see that if you could.
- Sub characters or party members however you call them. I didn't like their design or customization limitations. The fact I couldn't change their equipment and their stats always lagged light years behind my characters even with their 'upgrades' and throwing some runes on their stuff didn't make up for the gap between strengths. I don't know how many times my entire party died save for my main and he pulled it together and made it through.
Misc thoughts:
- I know I probably skipped alot of things and writing this ona whim didn't help. I do think that the story of this game could've gone to a greater scale as far as how big it becomes. It only became real to me a few times throughout the game and it was maintly at pivotal moments of my characters story.
- I don't know if im missing something or not, however Bioware stated that DA2 was over a 10 year span. However unless they're counting the time it took you to get from transition to transition Im missing a few years before beating the game. Perhaps it was my decisions or something I didn't do that I could've have but my game was over the course of 7 years. 3 after the first transition... 4 after the second which was when I was champion. Am I missing something?
- Question. If DA1 ended with the warden disappearing never to be heard from and in DA2 after beating the game and varric saying I was never heard from again... what the heck happened and why did my heroes suddenly disappear? Is it because of the choices I made? These are things I haven't figured out although I've played DA1 many many manyyy times and DA2 im gonna run through it again as another class after I go back through my saves and made different decisions (luckily I made a new save before every transition).
Ending thought,
WHY THE EFF DID ANDERS KISS ME AND AVELINE WOULDNT!?
Till my next report.
