It may also act as a "go-to" thread for when people have questions regarding import problems. If this takes off I'll update it as we get more info.
What we know: From checking out various other forum posts, the import problems arise from DLC saves. (Awakening, Golems, Witch Hunt). So far any save from Origins does not seem to create any issues. Now as far as what DLCs are affecting the import and what decisions become bugged is still a little bit in the air. It is also unclear if the version number makes a difference or not. The game hasn't even been out for a week though (as of the original date of this post) so I'm sure we'll get a more concrete idea as time goes by.
As of now, saves originating from the Witch Hunt are known to create problems. Pretty much every person who started a DA2 game with a Witch Hunt save has run into one or more issues. Golems and Awakening saves appear to be as well, but I haven't seen nearly as many people complain about story progression from saves from these DLCs as I have from Witch Hunt. This could simply be because most people who decide to play the DLCs go all-out and play all three. As of now, I'm hesitant to say whether or not any DLC besides Witch Hunt borks your import.
These problems occur across all three platforms. Doesn't matter if its PC, Xbox, or PS3. You use a Witch Hunt save, your plot flags are going to get messed up.
What is affected: Right now, I can only add what I have personally experienced. As I probably won't bother importing any saves beyond DA: O until the game has been patched (my reasons below), I'm going to be relying on information filted in from others to beef-up this part of the list. As people comment with their own experiences, I'll add them up here.
Howe comments that the Architect is alive when he shouldn't be: This is a common one. When you meet Howe in the Deep Roads, he comments that the Warder-Commander let the Architect live even if you killed the ugly ****er at the end of Awakening.
Leliana doesn't comment on romance with the Warden (Exiled Prince DLC): In the Exiled Prince DLC, Leliana makes a cameo appearence. If you romanced her in DA: O, and you ask her about her time with the Warden (I believe the question is on the left-side of the wheel, marked "Leliana?"), she is suppose "He/she is very dear to my heart..." (or something to that effect). However, instead, she just casually mentions that it has been "many years since I last saw him/her."
That's all I got right now. :\\
What is being done about it: Might seem like an odd addition to this thread, but hear me out.
The obvious answer is "they'll patch it", which I'm sure they will. As of now the only official response I've seen is "we're looking into it" which is more or less code for "we're trying to fix it, just don't know how long it'll be yet." As I said earlier, this post originates before the game was even a week old so it may be awhile before get any official word. So why state the obvious?
Because, personally, I would like to know whether or not the incoming patch will fix already completed game.
The game uses "flags" to note particular plot points. For example, romancing Leliana in DA: O creates a "flag" that Awakening and DA2 is suppose to pick up and thus shift dialogue or events in a particular direction. As we currently understand the import bug, it is "stripping" the flags upon import, essentially making your decisions non-existent.
So my question is basically asking will already completed games of DA2 fix the "stripping" and reinsert these flags thus putting the story on the "proper" path, or will they remain broken? It' s not a question I expect answered anytime soon, but before it is I'm hesitant to start any imported game prior to a patch. The whole "create-your-own-story" aspect of this game has a lot of appeal to me.
So there you have it. Either this thread will get a lot of hits and added info, or die in forum obscurity. Guess I'll find out soon enough.
