There was an interesting comment during the epilogue conversation between Varric and Cassandra.  The mage towers have revolted, which is fairly unsurprising.  More curious is the fact that the conversation mentions the templars revolting as well.

That begs the question - why did they revolt?  It seems unlikely that they supported the mages.  Did they think that the Chantry was taking too soft a line?  Or was there something else involved?

Some support the mages obviously, and the others probably don't like being controleld through lyrium.

Simple, the Chantry probably wanted the Mages suppressed and the Templars wanted them dead.

So mutiny

Yea, they also said something along the lines of the revolting Templars being out hunting mages.  Clearly, to me anyway, the Chantry hierarchy wanted a different approach - though not sure what it is.

Well the Divine rejected the idea of making all mages tranquil so killing them all certainly isn't something she wanted to do.

And the Grand Cleric in Kirkwall didn't seem as ignorant as the rest of the Chantry people.

But its surprising the Templars would turn on the source of their fix. Unless they found another way to get lyrium.

There's been plenty of evidence throughout the series that Templars have other sources of Lyrium.
