so sandal says

"One day the magic will come back. all of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see"

i was speculating perhaps he is infact a god (or a messenger of a god).

merril speaks of the elven gods, 8 gods who were tricked and banished by the dread wolf (flemeth who can turn into a dragon) who can walk amongst both.

now the archdemons are the old gods, but there are only 7, leaving the 8th, which could leads me to think it could be the maker.

his comment about a scary lady watching him also possibly flemeth, and if flemeth did have an interest in him, then it could be possible that he is the 8th or has connection to him (he was found on his own in the deep roads).

The old gods helped the tevinter by teaching them magic, which means connecting them to the fade so they could free them, then the darkspawn show up and corrupt an old god, which lead to a war with the tevinter imperium. Then andraste shows up shortly after to try and finish the job? then she fails but somehow everyone even the tevinters adopt the chantry teachings?

The Chantry is designed to restrict mages with the circle/templar, this would hinder the use and power of mages, which would stop the old gods getting back from the fade, also the chantry was created by andraste the "so called prophet", hmm the dread wolf trickery perhaps http://dragonage.wik....e_True_Prophet?

also "To the Imperium, Andraste was an opportunist, a barbarian taking advantage of their weakness." and flemeth lives in fereldan in the "barbaric" regions, "The people she led in her campaign were the barbaric ancestors of the Fereldans."

going back to what sandal says. "One day the magic will come back. all of it. Everyone will be just like they were." And the end of Dragon age 2when the chantry was blown up, which was done by Anders who is possessed by a spirit of the fade, which even for anders is tad extreme, the fade part of him told him (well they are merged) to do it. thus starting to free the mages and bring magic back into the world.

another thing, the darkspawn seem to go hunting for old gods and taint them, as if that is their only goal then going to the surface. There is alink here with flemeth as morrigan learnt from flemeth's grimore and managed to get a child with darkspawn "taint".

perhaps she was looking for a cure for the darkspawn corruption, and thats why shes running from flemeth because darkspawn was her creation?

Anyway these are just speculations but i cant help think flemeth, dread wolf, andraste/chantry, magic, old gods, and sandal are all connected somehow.

but theres one factor that doesnt add up, who is the maker? is he made up? is he the 8th god that escaped banishment? the elven lore maybe the real history/religion, where the chantry is all made up by andraste's teachings?

Now that was an interesting idea :)

A tfirst I took it for a retard being "haunted" by a ghost of Hawke's mother (I heard it just after her quest). But it seems hardly possible. She wasn't that bad, after all. ;) He must have remembered her in some better way.

But there are coincidences indeed, we meet him on our way to most important scenes, and he... well, seems to be quite capable, judging by the number of the dead ones lying around him every time.

I think he is just very special. A bit like autism. He is very recieving for magic and maybe even can some sort of see the future or patterns that hint on the future that normal people can't see. But he doesn't seem to be able to handle nomal things like taking care of himself. Unless it involves 'boom'.

Pretty sure Flemeth has some ability to see parts of the future. It's just been hinted at too often in both Origins and now DA 2.

I also have to wonder if Flemeth foresaw all the tragedy that befalls you, hence her telling you that you have her sympathies as she leaves you on Sundermount.
