I guess I am not much of a Mage fan, even with my 1 mage in DA:O he was buff/debuff Melee Mage.

I finally found a combo for Hawke I love.  I don't even play Hawke cuz of it, :P.  Because computer way better at it then me.  I play everyone else, hehe.  Best part of it all, you don't have to have Anders in your team crying & being a Debbie Downer!

The combination of those two, with Arcane Shield/Mind Blast/Elemental Weapons, It ruins everything.  First off, let the computer play Hawke, set up your tactics, watch the spells tank for you!  While Hawke heals & debuffs.

Gravitic Ring going be your tank spell, it's glorious.
Telekinetic Burst also great Tank/CC spells.
Sprinkle in Pull of the Abyss for lulz.
Mindblast for when your being melee attacked

Those 4 combinations, plus two extra buffs, your durn Mabari can tank for you, :o
So I just run around the field swapping between Isabella & Fenris, while Hawke goes crazy & keeps heals up, 4th man usually Merrill or Varric for more DPS.(Sometimes I throw Aveline in there or Sebastian, I am finally rid of Emo Anders!)

Shame you can't use Fist of the Maker, but it does damage.  So try this combination out, it's rather nutty, least for me anyways. ;)

I'm about to do a quick early game run through as a buff bot. Can't respec because reloading after using a Maker's Sigh gives my mage all the spells he had before the respec in addition to the new ones. Mage is definitely more of a support role on nightmare. I've tried CC but there are too many enemies in each fight and each enemy has the health of your entire party combined. Stunning one out of the 15+ enemies in a fight for 4 seconds every 30 seconds just doesn't work.

I am on Normal, I don't need toss around my Epeen, I play games to relax & enjoy myself. :)

Side note: Entropic Cloud is rather useless, after much testing, I had Merrill spec out of it.

Difficulty setting has nothing to do with tossing around one's "epeen," but rather the difference between Normal and Nightmare can make single abilities or entire builds infinitely less potent.

Well, try this combo on Hard/Nightmare then, see what happens, I honestly beleive Gravitic Ring is probably one best & prettiest spells in the game.(I love that glow)
