I'm NOT talking about ME3. I'm also not saying that it will be a continuation of Shepard's story.

I could see Bioware working with developers of great FPS games like

DICE (Battlefield)
Guerrilla (Killzone)
Insomniac Games (Resistance)

and others.

There's a lot of things that could be made into an FPS through Mass Effect. I personally think Mass Effect is Bioware's best franchise and they should milk it it for all it's worth (but not make it horrible). Also, because FPS games seem to be the most popular, it would be a good move to make a an FPS, as long as Bioware works with the right developers.

What do you think?

Which is why I said that Bioware should team up with an FPS developer .

It's most likely BIoware is gonna do Dragon Age III and a new series after ME3.

It would be a waste of time, effort, and money if they did that.  The game IP already contains strong FPS elements with powers coming in secondary.  It's a good formula that shouldn't be toyed with. As I've said before, they can still continue the IP in one of the other  periods of time: First Contact War (especially) or during the Rachni Wars/Krogan Rebellions, but they won't streamline the game style any more than they already have.  The core fanbase will only allow it to go so far (see Dragon Age II reaction) and it wouldn't necessarily lead to a bump in sales.

After DA2? (my opinion) And Bioware I think has already stated that there will be more Mass effect games after ME3.

It wouldn't be a waste of time. A lot of people would buy it. I don't see how making money is a waste.

I forgot to mention that. Bioware should be the one developing the story and such.

Sorry, I like the idea and I can't say it wouldn't be awesome having a Mass Effect in first person (Mmmm, first-person renegade actions), but too many people would start crying that Bioware's selling out to the CoD crowd.

I admit, that's one of the problems facing a game like that. I know it more than likely won't happen, but I think it's an awesome idea if it could be pulled off right.

Agreed. I would of course, personally buy it and salute Bioware for their bravery. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening. I think the best part would be the dialogues and interrupts. They would be awesome in first person.

Guerilla is owned by Sony so you can cross them off. EA wants to make money and console exclusivity won't help them do it. As for ME going FPS: I wouldn't be surprised if EA tries it. And they can go ahead for all I care. After ME3, my interest in Mass Effect will be significantly reduced.

Because there can never be too many FPS games lol

I'd prefer them to stay action RPG at least

Market too saturated with AAA+ FPS games. Mass effect is an RPG, third-person shooter game. Its the equivalent of World of Warcraft turning into a Fighting game.

If they want an FPS game, theyve gotta punch a massive hole in a wall and they have to punch it really really hard.

ME3 in space CoD could sell well and get some new fans to the forum.

Edit: And you would like it too, admit it, hell, I know I would.

I literally dreamed of this idea once.

It could be really great. If the gameplay was built around the concepts of the unlimited ammo, kinetic barriers and weapon/armor mods. Add to that the idea of biotics... *cough* Half-Life 2... Gravity gun... *cough* and some super-tactical combat engineering...

Sadly, after ME2 came out, it's clear that EA/BioWare either aren't really serious about their desire to win over the "CoD crowd" (and more aim for the GoW "crowd" or simply want to cash in on whatever sells fast) or don't really understand what the "CoD crowd" wants, which is interesting and challenging level design (aka maps) and strong enemy AI (both programmed and scripted).

Battlefield

And now that you mention it, I'm taking this opportunity to repeat: It's damn shame that the Mako got trashed in favor of that dipsh*t Hammerhead after BioWare came under the same banner under which the Battlefield series is developed and features a well working vehicle combat simulation in every iteration since like forever.

BTW, Battlefield is really very close to rivalling CoD, only it's a bit too sophisticated for the "crowd" in the multi-player (more oriented towards the "pro" gamers) and too lacking of meaningful single-player campaigns.

So yeah, Mass Effect FPS... It could... But it won't.

I'm going to go ahead and assume what you meant was a spinoff.

Is it doable?  Yes,  certainly.  An FPS spinoff ME is quite viable,  the ME universe lends itself well to that.

Would it succeed?  The approach would have to be something akin to No One Lives Forever,  though not necessarily with the humor.  "You're a Spectre on a dangerous mission to...".  Keeping with some of the flavor of the series,  I'd think the best approach would be semi-nonlinear.  Let the Player find a path through the game by having multiple paths to the end,  preferably permitting him the options of approaching it like a Hero or an Anti-hero.

It's doable,  it'd compete well with Half-Life,  Dead Space,  and Halo.

FPS games for me in general have much better immersion and sense of atmosphere than TPS games. If ME1 was made into a FPS-RPG, with unique planetary bases and weapons instead of recycled ones, it would have probably been compared with the original Deus-Ex for best FPS-RPG or atleast considered one of the best FPS games of all time. I also believe people would've appreciated why the original guns of mass effect handled much better in a sci-fi RPG game imo.

If bioware was really into the cover mechanics, they could just make it switch to third-person cover-based mode like Rainbow Six Vegas and the new Deux Ex game. I kinda dislike the idea of being forced to keep switching views during gameplay in a RPG though.

Just imagine playing with those biotics in first person...
