If game is FPS, I don't buy it. It doesn't matter if it would be worlds best game.

I have motion sickness illness and first person perspective cause problems. Also role-playing isn't just about player playing, it's about player playing role of character, what means there is need of character. If you can't see your own character it lowers the role-playing and makes it more about player.

It will probably be a FPS based game with at least multi-player. While it might not be the next ME-based game (after ME3), I would still think that at least one game of that kind will be made and released, at some point.

I think that turning any future ME games into FPS would be a waste of resources and time with all the competition out there (COD,GOW, etc) and likely fail quite badly.

After the drek that was DA2 I wouldn't be surprised by anything and with the end of ME3 I won't have to care either.

edit - forgot line

Care to give literally any further explanation to why ME can't be an FPS?

why not as long as the game keeps the great ME universe and a new sand boxy feeling I'm all for it

if they are going to make it like quake or doom then NO cause I'm sick of linear levels, if they are going to make it like borderlands or elderscrolls or fallout NV then it could be a pretty wicked game.

Making it an FPS does not mean it suddenly becomes a completely different game. The only thing it actually changes is from what perspective you look at the world.

Just give me an actual reason: Why won't it work?

After ME3 they can do this. And because I support change, I like the idea, because franklh it would be absolute kick ass to run around with an M-8 Avenger in your hands. And frankly, because (IMHO) there isn't a better universe for it.

ME can be FPS, but it doesn't make it better. It's same saying ME could be like iso-metric view point too. It could, but ME serie is more like cinematic action "movie" like. It's about showing situation from different perspective and camera angles. If you look all three options.

- Iso-metric view
- 3rd person view
- 1st person view

You can easyly see how the 3rd person view is most flexiable for cinematic games, where is many camera angles. 1st person view is basicly character eyes and it's allways same, but that's not how cinematiic works even in movies. Nor is iso-metric view any better because it would be so big change between cinematic camera angles and then back to iso-metric view.

Only 3rd person view point can give the game the smooth camera view possibilities like in movies. Have you seen movie from main characters eyes only? I think movie DOOM had little bit that in the end, it did not make it look good. I'm sure you get my point.  3rd person perpective just fits best and give bet possible smooth story telling in cinematic ways, like what ME serie is all about.

As for role-playing from first person perpective, it could be fine. How ever, most the time I feel like i'm looking from narrow window of from trough camera than actually seeing it from characters eyes. It just doens't feel right, the perpective is just wrong some how.

I like the idea. It would be abit like System Shock.

Bioware can only wish they could touch the greatness of SS2 or Deus Ex.

Lumikki, I agree with you on that the ME series is a cinematic experience mostly. However, what's to stop them from making another ME game that's not as cinematic? That maybe is in FPS? Hell, it'd be worth it just to see how it would work to have an RPG-ish game in FP.

They could make FPS, but what's the point using ME serie for it?

Without the cinematic story telling, it's not anymore ME serie. It's like having car driving serie and then add surffing game in to it. They could even make ME based mmorpg, but it would never really be ME.

Taking away the cinematic feel of conversations does not mean it's not Mass Effect anymore. You must have a very weird view of ME if you do think so.

This. Mass Effect has the universe for an FPS game. In the event that it was a multiplayer FPS game, I could see something similar to M.A.G. (PS3 game).Huge battles between the three different mercenaray groups (Eclipse, Blood Pack, Blue Suns) in awesome multiplayer combat. In my opinion, I think that's an awesome idea right there.

Guerilla is owned by Sony so you can cross them off. EA wants to make money and console exclusivity won't help them do it. As for ME going FPS: I wouldn't be surprised if EA tries it. And they can go ahead for all I care. After ME3, my interest in Mass Effect will be significantly reduced.

Guerrilla was more or less an example. EA has DICE, and they aren't console exclusive.

We already have that though, it's called Elder Scrolls and Fallout (3 onward at least). Honestly, there would be no real reasoning in tossing ME into first-person other than just because you can.

Also, pretty much every other game in the past 6 years has been a first-person shooter. This is why Mass Effect stands out so much, it opts for its own direction rather than following everyone else's.

Of course, I'm still of the opinion that Mass Effect is an RPG first and shooter second.

I'd say Kotor came close, if not outright topping it (Deus Ex, that is). But that's just me. Image IPB

It's the end of Shepard's story, not the ME universe.

Shepards story is over but as with Dragon Age the Mass Effect universe was created with the intend of long term usage beside the initial installments.

FPS would be nice, and a pure one at that meaning no RPG parts but there need to be dialogoptions and branching storyline.

Anyway they need to stop using the name Mass Effect besides games in the Reaperstoryline and even there Bioware should stop with numbers after 3 and go by subtitles like with Galaxy if there is no Shepard in it

I don't know, I feel upgrading gear and seeing your character change and progress throughout the game is a big part of a RPG, and that's something that you loose with a FPS.
