I feel like a ME fps could definitely work.  Just because a game is an fps, doesn't mean it can't have the same cinematic design and strong story elements to it like a 3rd person game does.  For example, a ME fps could still have player-controlled conversations where the camera zooms out on the player and characters and the characters engage in their conversation classic ME-style.  The only difference that would unquestionably exist between a regular ME game and a fps ME game is combat, assuming everything else is done similarly to the original games.

Shooter spin-off? Why not? Every publisher needs it's own Halo nowadays. I don't think that Bioware should do that though.

An FPS set in the Mass Effect universe would make me giddy. Way cooler than Halo.

Would like the ability to actually aim the all weapons using the cross-hair or scope (kinda like the snipers) but at the same time be able to switch to 3rd person at any time ... kinda like MGS4 .. you can switch between 1st and 3rd person as you wish (the new Elder Scrolls Skyrim will focus equally on the 1st and 3rd person views).

But turning ME into a 100% FPS game doesn't sound right to me at all ... seeing your own character is part of the game experience and appeal .. and no it won't compete with CoD or Halo .. they are worlds apart .. it will actually compete with other FPS-RPG hybrids like Deus Ex, Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, .. etc etc).

They could even sell licenses for the lore so someone else can make a FPS.

What i don't get is why people want to restrict the lore of Mass Effect
to a specific kind of gameplay, it's like saying there shouldn't be a
Star Wars RPG (if it hadn't been done yet).

SW RPG !!! .. hello ... KOTOR (knights of the Old Republic)  is a Star Wars RPG made by Bioware XD

And it isn't about restricting the lore of ME .. it just doesn't feel right to play a ME game in 100% 1st person view.

Personally like i mentioned above i don't mind the ability to switch to 1st person in combat or during exploration (with 3rd person still being the main view) .... the whole 1st person/3rd person is actually more about vantage point not actual gameplay difference IMO.

What i'd like to acually see is an ME game where in some part you command an entire army RTS style .. then half way through the battle you switch to directly controlling your characte and experiance the same battlefield you commanded from above directly ... then later on you hop into a ship similar or smaller than the Normandy (Frighter or a smaller class) and engage in space combat aganist other ships and space stations .. now that would be epic ... the Krogan Wars and First Contact War between humans and Turians would be perfect oppertunity for that type of hybrid gameplay (since both have large scale wars) .. i imagine a Mass Effect:First Contact War game that allows you to either play a Turian or a Human (and meet both the illusive man back then and Saren)

Perhaps i got my grammar wrong. Meant it along the lines in a time where there wasn't a Star Wars RPG. Had to choose an example where you can't deny it is possible to do.

During conversations and cinematics there is no reason for it not to be exactly like ME1 and ME2 lumikki. Looking at my Shepard/character during those scenes would be enough of a fix for me. Especially considering the abundance of cinematics and conversations in a typical ME game.

Imo this whole multiplayer talk needs to stop. I want an amazing single-player campaign that's full of atmosphere, exploration, content, and love. I don't want any of that to be suffered because of yet another stupid feature Bioware/EA thinks a more wider audience can appreciate. I can't believe ME fans would even consider multiplayer in their games for a lesser single-player experience.

How can people want Bioware to waste their talents on trying to make 6 boring corridor maps and balancing multiplayer for people to start mindlessly killing eachother hours on end instead of extending the Mass Effect story. Shouldn't be too suprised though considering how most ME2 fans welcomed the large focus on the shooting gameplay.

They could also just give it to another of their studios but if they don't want to they could make money by giving others the opertunity to loan the license for a FPS in Mass Effect universe.

Letting some EA studio do it? I guess it will happen sooner or later.
Selling licenses to outside devs/pubs? No one is that generous and no outside dev/pub is that stupid.

But you do know Lucas Arts, altough i guess thats mostly collaboration. And you dont have to sell the whole franchise you can sell the license for a single game, it's done all the time.

You do know that Lucas Arts publishes all the Star Wars games, right? What you're saying doesn't apply here. The only exception I know of is this deal EA made with Lucas Arts to get full publishing rights in exchange for a very hefty loyalty fee for Lucas Arts.

Yeah, remembered the publishing part to late. The selling/loaning part is rather done if the holder of the license is a dev without publisher or isn't involved in video games himself. So you're right in this case it will most likely be an EA studio.

I'm NOT talking about ME3. I'm also not saying that it will be a continuation of Shepard's story.

I could see Bioware working with developers of great FPS games like

DICE (Battlefield)
Guerrilla (Killzone)
Insomniac Games (Resistance)

and others.

There's a lot of things that could be made into an FPS through Mass Effect. I personally think Mass Effect is Bioware's best franchise and they should milk it it for all it's worth (but not make it horrible). Also, because FPS games seem to be the most popular, it would be a good move to make a an FPS, as long as Bioware works with the right developers.

What do you think?

I hate the idea. Would not buy it.

An FPS?!?!?
Bioware, now you can realize all the faults of your new "rpgs" formula...
You have lost your identity.. You have lost your core base.

The shadows of Westwood, Origin, Maxis, Bulfrog etc... are coming...

lols .. nobody said anything about ME3 .. OP is talking about a spin-off type of game (although you seem to be quite sarcastic to me .. never mind).

OMG !!! .. an FPS !!!! .. the horror !!! .. yeah ... becasue great FPS-RPGs don't exist.

Fact is ... Deus Ex .. System Shock 2 ... Bioshock and Elder Scrolls want to have a word with you .. as i look at them clenching their angry fists .. i wonder what they want

On a serious note .. i too don't want ME turned into FPS-RPG .. but won't go doom and gloom about it if they did it in an ME game beyond ME3 .. i hear Dead Space Extraction (a spin-off Dead Space series by EA) was pretty good .. and it was an on-rails FPS game.

Bioware did say they will continue to make games related to Mass Effect after Mass Effect 3, only not Shepard's story.

They made universe that can compete against Star Wars and Star Trek, why stop after ME3?

seriously arent you people ever bored of FPS games... does every frigging game out there that has a reticule, have to be in first person view?

I dont get you people....you just hate looking at your character or something? It frustrates you so much to shoot over the shoulder camera?

How would the cover system work? ( and please dont mention killzone)
how would conversations and paragon/renegade action look like in conversations?

Face it... the only damn reason you want this is for the sex scene... lol

Anyway, to hell with FPS games...I've had enough of them to last a lifetime. I want to look at my character when I am changing my armor, I want to look at my character's expressions in a conversation, I want to look at Shepard punching the reporter for the 3rd time!

There are a million reason why I love the fact ME has a third person view and not even one reason why it doesnt have a first person view. (sex scene included)

Anyway why do I love FPS?
Just cause.

But I still love TPS, RTS, RPG, Platformers...
And which I prefer?
Hybrids.

nnnno.it would feel weird but that's just my opinion.i like the 3rd person view fine.i generally like to see my character if i'm playing an rpg especially if i created that character (i did it in oblivion).then again,if mass effect started out as a fps rpg then i probably would feel awkward seeing it in 3rd person.they could certainly add the option as long as no gameplay elements are sacrificed and then everyone is happy.
