At the end of Act 2, with the Qunari rampaging (even after having been pretty much as Pro-Quanari as you can be without 'joining' the Qun). I am faced with the choice to turn over Isabela or Duel the Arishok. I was actually given two options to turn over Isabella (the Multipath-Choice "Take Her" and the Star-Choice of "Take Her" >.>). I choose the duel, because despite being a lying, theiving ****, she's still a member of the team and my Hawke's most developed LI. Setting aside how obvious the story was/is up to this point (which, for me, was fairly obvious), I am unsure how best to approach this choice. I dueled the Arishok and lost because he would heal about as much damage as I could deal, sometimes faster than I can deal it. Is there anyway to win this fight with a Duel-Wield Rogue Hawke? Does it come down to who can guzzle the most potions?

I never keep a large supply of potions on me, I rarely need them before. I always had more than enough, but never a buttload, so I'm kind of under-supplied when the Arishok most likely has infinite potions himself (because we all know a cheating AI means difficult!). Without too many spoilers, what are some of the outcomes of the choices? Is there anyway to not lose Isabela that does not involve a one-on-one fight against possibly the cheapest boss so far?

I... dislike losing companions, even if they totally deserve it.

Yeah, you have to keep moving. Watch his movements (to predict when he'll charge, and when he'll do his knockdown, etc etc.) and explosive pots are your friends.

Try to stay behind him on and on his sides if you can. Personally, I kept him near one of the pillars. That way I could line of sight when I needed to.

I'm not sure what I did that allowed me to do this, but I had an option to refuse the duel, and I ended up fighting him and all of the Qunari in the room with my party of four plus Isabela as a non-controllable character; it ended being one of the easiest fights in game.

I'm out of Explosive and Tar Pots. I carried even less of them around than health potions. I can last like 12 minutes but the fight goes no where. Eventually, I either get caught or run out of potions. I can never put enough distance between us to heal, and that's usually when he gets me. When I go to heal, he runs me through draining anywhere from a quarter to three-quarters of my life bar (I wish I know why it was so variable >.>)

Bait him by creating distance, then use the pot while / after he dashes. You have to create your openings. You're a rogue. Fight like one. ;P

If nothing else, I would go back a save and buy more supplies.

he only healed twice, maybe three times for me. I was a SH mage and just kept running around the pillars (he would get hung up in them for a few seconds and she would blast off her staff at him). Also wait for his charge, yoiu can get a few shots in as he's running blindly into the wall. Also try to keep moving out of his range when he attacks.
I didn't have to worry because Aura kept my mage at full health the whole fight, but his attacks do knockdown a lot and I don't react fast enough sometimes. So kiting/hitting from behind was my approach.

I have fought him twice now as a Two handed warrior and both times I had to go to casual to beat him. ****ER WONT DIE!

I was playing as a rogue on casual and thought that fight was incredibly difficult. I fought with my full party.

Isabela ran off with the book anyway, whoops.

I beat him using a rogue archer with the decoy ability from shadow and the mabari. He seems to get confused after you use decoy and just stand around for a while.

I dont use the mabari as its a DUEL and I feel that is cheating even if he is a heathen ox head demon. FILTHY QUNARI!

He's using two giant axes.
Hard Multiclassing on Steroids? I hope he likes the smell of wet dogs biting his knees.

You need to whait for his charge then stun him with MIASMIC FLASK and hit best possible from behind (also i recommend that you have upgraded MIASMIC FLASK ). Is good if you put some venom on your blades, like DEBILITATION. l strongly recomend to upgrade your blade with RUN OF FROST. The qunary's are weak against cold. Also if you you have the black emporium dlc use the dual weapon SONG OF SORROW it has only 13 phisical damage that is low, but you can upgrade with the 2 RUN OF FROST for each weapon.you can find the RUN OF FROST on Lirene's fereldan import shop at Lowtown, ingridients Lyrium x 1 and Silverite x 1. Stock on health potion and stamina potion. also is favorable to use MIGTHY OFFENSE POTION increases damage by 10% found on Sundermount act 2. Use LIFE WARD POTION it revives you when your knock down, though an injury is still sustained. Hope this help.

Word of advice for the future...if you go Shadow as a rogue, and get the copy image talent (forgetting what it's called right now) he stands beating on it while you can beat on him. It's the only way I could easily beat him in a duel. It's not that honorable but... hey, the guy just threw the leader's HEAD down the stairs and he tried to kill me with ALL of his men back in the compound. I'm a rogue. There's a point where I have to say, "Screw honor, just die."

Try being an Archer and duel him, but i do it on casual. Like some have said its even hard then. I had to use both kinds of potions and i always kept stocked up. Remember if you cant think of a place to buy them, go to the Emporium if you have that. His stocked up 50x each kind of potion.

Loghain was a joke duel compared to this one lol. Arishok could beat Loghain blind.

I... am totally going for that as a rogue. O_O

Anyway, as a warrior, weilding a single weapon, I found myself incredibly frustrated by the lack of damage that I could inflict on him. I'd whack him and his health bar would barely move.
I ended up having to dodge a lot, be thankful I could stun him, and wish that I could use my reaver's ability to leech his life more often. At least between potions and leeching his life I was pretty much set.
But yeah, my inital impression was that that battle was going to suck as a rogue.

Beat it on the second try, not even sure how. I played exactly like I did the first time and got him down to 50% before he could use more than 2 potions (I think I got him there in one, but memory is foggy). It was odd. I did nothing different, I just got lucky he didn't do that annoying combo that killed me the first time. (Impaled me, knocked me back, charged, knocked me back, slashed me before I could get away. >.>)

I beat him easily with just health pots on normal with my 2h warrior. I almost died a few times, but I had lots of health pots and I was a reaver, so I had my self-heal ability, too.
