Terrible chronological bug for Merrill's cutscenes and companion quest.

At this point I went "wtf?" as I had just come back from Sundermount and everyone was still fine. I even went back to Sundermount to check to see if this was the case. It was.
Then later I complete Merrill's companion quest and realise that the cutscenes are supposed to trigger AFTER you end up wiping out the Dalish because of the Keeper's possession by the Demon.
By this time I was seriously annoyed because it ruined the story for me, as I knew the Keeper was going to die before it actually happened.
How could a bug of this magnitude make it through QC? It totally destroys the story and is further proof that the game was rushed.

This post actually helped me clarify what that was all about, thanks.

EDIT: obviously a boolean flag is sense-inverted. To de-geek that: game has true/false back to front on this plot flag.

i romanced Fenris and gotten Merril to Rivalry status, did not help with her any of her quests (denied her the hammer thing to fix the eluvian). in act 3 she wanted to see the demon, which i also denied but helped and instead got her clan to just exile her after the keeper's death.
after this whole ordeal, i talked to her in her cottage and was able to romance her and get her to move in. is this a glitch? i had her maxed on rivalry and got a trophy for it haha. also, after she moved in, the apostates kidnapped her in the wounded coast Orsino storyline event, but i was still able to bring her in my party and see her kidnapped as well.
I think this was a huge glitch to see Merril's doppleganger, but it was interesting. has this happened to anyone else?

My impression is that everyone who got these out of order, got them while being a rival to Merril.
Also; pursuing a romance can happen whether you're rivals or friends, so that is not a bug. Some people seem to be under the impression it is.

Only after reading this do I now realize why.
My character was friends with Merrill, and a romance.

It's because you can get rivalry with Merril far faster than you can get friendship. The "Questioning beliefs" flags are solely rivalry/friendship based, they don't check any plot state flags.

I was friends with Merrill and I got the bug, so i dont think it has anything to do with that

I didn't get this bug, but I was never able to have the last conversation with her. It was in my journal, but clicking on her just triggered one of her "it's clean sometimes" comments.

After I did all that and killed her clan, there was nothing else with her. The quest was still in my log telling me to go talk to the demon, but there was really nothing I could do as everything on Sundermount was dead as a doornail.
So yeah, quite buggy. Trying things a little differently in my second playthrough to see if things are still bugged.

I killed Marethari and went back to her house to find Merrill whining about how much the Keeper lectures her. Something's definitely up with that quest.
Same.
It's like the masssacre never happened because I had to fight my way out.
She was at my place for much of the game, my female mage even slept with her but I didn't get the romance achievement until the very end just prior to the final battle when everyone is lined up and you talk to them one last time. Not sure if that's how it was supposed to go but I was under the impression that moment should've happened at Hawke's home.

I heard QA and Tech Design talking about this today. They're very much aware of it, though I have no other information at the moment.
It good to know that much at least and gives me hope for a fix.
Thanks.
