From the quest where you try and save your mother, you find a note from "O".
This would really really explain the ending, but is this supposed to be the first enchanter? He was helping this crazed madman in his research that led to my mother being killed?
Discuss?

DAMMIT I never made that connection between Orsino and Quentin. I was like "How does he know Quentin by name?".

I think it's a note from Orsino, yes. Which would -somewhat- explain his crazy harvester move at the very end - he wasn't the reasonable character he seemed to be.

...only now do I realise the connection. I didn't think of who he meant when he said Quentin, but now I remember him. And that note. It was most probably him that sent the note if you look at those things. How did I miss that detail...

If you do the Templar ending, you can call him out on it. He'll admit it and everything.

Indeed. He admits that he knew about Quntin and was hiding him because otherwise he'd make mages look bad. However, if you read the note, it's obvious Orsino was giving him book/equipment for his 'studies.'

Ever since I found that note, I was hoping for some kind of confrontation with Orsino... some kind of way to take revenge, because he is undoubtedly responsible for that monster Quentin roaming around unchecked. Sadly, no opportunity came, at least, not that I found.
I also didn't understand why I had to fight Harvester at all... hell, I kind of thought it would help us against the Templars, since we were allies and all. Not that I really expected it. In the split second between transformation and the beginning of combat, I knew I'd have to fight my ally and it would not make sense... pfft. Whatever.

I realized it on my second game when I played rogue, I got a star option in the radial menu and Orisno basicly admits he protected Quentin from the templars which only made me want to kill him more.

I was very much looking forward to the confrontation with Orsino. Calling him out on it in front of Bethany and then killing his scheming self was very satisfying.

I caught this on my first playthrough. Orsino makes himself seem pretty innocent in that last scene, but in the letter, he's VERY excited about Quentin's research and the impending flesh creation.
I think Orsino was even worse than Meredith. Meredith had an excuse. She had always been a hardass, but it was the idol that made her twisted and paranoid and crazy. Orsino didn't have any excuse.

I can't believe I let that monster Quentin go when I had him. I figured I did not have enough proof to take a life and trusted that Aveline would keep an eye on him. Not so *weeps* Hawke misses her mommy.

That wasn't Quentin that you let go. That was Du Pruis, his apprentice.

Whatever happens to Du Puis anyways? I haven't seen him since I let him go.

You can go to Darktown during the quest where your mother is missing and talk to him there. He'll use some blood magic to track her down, then you'll find out that he wasn't really avenging his sister, rather he wanted to know more about necromancy.
Then he either betrays you or you convince him you're gonna slice him up if he does.

Or if you bring Varric with you, he just outright kills him out of sheer rage.
