Try picking the healing spell for morrigan.

This is without any DLC items because I used them all last game and felt it ruined the joy of looting for me... now I'm thinking I should have kept and used it all again so it would help balance the game.

It sounds like all you're bothering to do is stun people, not anything else. Kill somethng, for god's sake.

This would require she gain a level, which I'm unable to do by heading to Orzammar. So... this game has a ton of choice, right? You can choose where you want to go or how you want things to play out... but ****, if you want to try things differently and go to Orzammar straight off the back, roflmao

I did this on hard with sten, dual-wield rogue PC, Dog and Morrigan right after Lothering. I had Morrigan charge forward and mind blast the bulk of the enemies, and froze another one with a vulnerability hex + winter grasp. Dog stunned the other ones with his howl. The battle was easy after that. I did have to reload after losing a couple times with other tactics, though.
Edit: I had levelled twice, I think, since arriving in Lothering. I had done all of the quests there and picked up Shale.

just have morrigan heal and the rogues cc down a target while allistair taunts whoever is trying to go for morrigan deathroot extract is fantastic early on as a way to stun people.

If I focus on killing right off the bat, Allistair dies within three seconds due to Chain Lightning from the Mage and being swarmed by the two melee hunters and the leader (one of which stuns him), as well as being shot at by the ****ing archer.
If I stun, I can at least kill the mage, but Allistair still dies.

You should've gained more than one level in Lothering.

I killed the bandits, did the Chantry board quests, saved Sten, went to the Tavern, saved Bodahn, killed the Refugees.. my main and Allister gained a level, Morrigan and Lelianna did not.

This battle in general is hard. I've done it with Wynne as a healbot, Morrigan CCing everything, and my warrior and Allistar taking the aggro and dishing out damage.
Yet I still lost against those slimps on hard mostly because I underestimated them. That dw warrior can seriously kill ****.
But yeah, I agree. That fight is sort of borked.

I guess I'm coming back here later. I tried the Vulnerability Hex + Winter Blast bit, but it still only stunned the guy for two seconds... and Allistair still had 8 seconds on his ****ing stun.
Major headache. I suppose I need to head somewhere else first (somewhere easier, like I don't know, the Circle of Magi) before I can even consider hitting up Orzammar.
So much for the whole "choose your own adventure" bit outside of the dialogue.

You can always lower the difficuly level for that one battle though. There's no shame in that. Enjoy the adventure, mate.

Yep, I need to gain like 5 or 6 more levels so Allistair doesn't die by Round 2, and so I can drop more than one enemy.
And this is on easy... thanks though Wintermist.
Off to the Circle I go, just like the first time...

You could always do alot of random encounters to level.

I don't recall anyone saying it was a choose your own adventure game. I do recall the devs stating that areas had levels and that you could easily run into encounters that were too hard for you despite the limited scaling.

I went to Orz first on my new playthrough, DW warrior, Sten, Leliana, Morrigan, so not exactly a stacked party, the encounter was tough but I made it through. I think what makes it more difficult is as far as I know that area only scales down to 10 so the fighting is probably a bit above you. It's probably the most difficult of the zones you can pick from and they put a tough-ish encounter up front to warn you of that before you get too deep.

Not on Morrigan, even if you use Memory Ring and have done all the quests she ends up starting a level ahead of you, I've never seen her level in Lothering, you'd have to exploit the trap quest.

No kidding. Between Wynne and the attribute gains I bet you could count the number of people who don't start there on one hand.

i agree that it is certainly very tough to start off in orzammar, the javiar encounter on lvl 9 is quite a pain.

have allistaire charge the mage and let one of your rogues take the stun.
That is the secret to this battle, ignore the others and waste that mage!

Personally, I've had no problem going anywhere. I roll up to Orzammar usually with morrigan, sten, and leliana, and we are able to plow through the bounty hunters with no problem. The important part is getting their mage. Target the mage with morrigan and your main, and make sure to watch your main's health and sten's. They will soak up a lot of damage that way, allowing you to kill the mage, and then take down the rest relatively easily.

Try focusing all your characters attacks on one person at a time and try to take out any mages first. I found in some more difficult battles that this tactic works pretty well as your eliminating baddies faster.

Might wanna try focusing all of your attacks on one target. For a while i tried a divide and conquer approach. When I got fed up of dying a lot, I adjusted tactics and have everyone, when not using an ability, attacking the controlled party member's target. Works beautifully.
