Anyone play FATAL, or know enough to weigh in on its potential usefulness in a CRPG?
Anyone here play FATAL?

Yes, it's bizarre and the work of an unwell mind. No, I don’t think it was meant as a joke; it’s far too large, detailed, and obvious thought has been put into it.

Oh, and this equally epic rebuttal by the author.

A joke, I assume. Sarcasm, it didn't seem to be.

Is that the RPG where even the most minute details of a character's genitalia and sexual functionality can be rolled?
That's the one. You could determine the diameter of your character's rectum, how large it could stretch, and how much damage you would take when it tore. There were several items detailed just for this use.
If it were an erotic RPG, I'd be fine with it. Instead, it focused exclusively on rape and mutilation.

A joke then. Sarcasm was a shot in the dark anyways. For some reason it was what first sprang to mind. In any case, I didn't find it all that funny. I know FATAL is merely a game, but it's so distasteful I can't take even a falsely positive comment about it in stride. It isn't just the subject matter, but how casual the writers were in portraying it. As if such horrific events are trivial. So, if this was a joke, it failed on me in the worst way.
The main writer is on the borderline between cartoonishly Nietzschean (if one were to grossly mininterpret Nietzsche) and full on sociopath.

or is it just an outright rape simulator?

Im sorry, is it a REAL rpg; that just has elements in which you CAN do bad things but don't HAVE to in order to advance through the game... kinda like GTA
or is just an outright rape simulator?
What differentiates in your mind a real RPG and a rape simulator? I consider it a real RPG, just a horrible one with convoluted rules, bizarre setting, and an obsession with rape, anal sex, torture, and bodily functions.

I meant... is it like say... Dragon Age? A full complete rpg, in which you explore, level up, kill creatures, advance through a story, save the world... in which you don't HAVE to engage in the things you listed?
or is it something else created solely for the purpose of rape/sex etc.
That was just to clarify my question. Based on your response I can pretty much see that the game isn't worth playing even if it is a "true" or "real" rpg. I had never even heard of this before now. People complained about Mass Effect 's romances, while this was about?

Could you avoid those elements? It's almost impossible as the critical fumbles for melee combat include things like accidently stabbing yourself in the sexybits or spontaneously defecating and having to roll how much feces comes out. The critical fumbles for magical combat are worse.
I'm not sure what it has to do with Mass Effect.

I mentioned Mass Effect because of how controversial the romances were, and yet at the same time THIS is around. I was just surprised by the fact I have never heard of this game, as it is something that no doubt SHOULD be HIGHLY controversial.

I can't read that review at all. Bright red text and bright white text on completely black background = bleeding eyes. I tried changing these fonts to grey, and even then it's pretty much an unreadable unenjoyable mess. And then the rebuttal had pink font and green text on white background...
No, really, my eyes won't stand for this.
No matter how insane the font colors are, be comforted in knowing they have spared you spiritual pain. To paraphrase the review: FATAL is the 2 girls 1 cup of RPGs.

Oddly enough, when I saw 2 girls 1 cup, I laughed and couldn't stop.
Then you might want to think about copying and pasting the text of the review and rebuttal into Word to make it legible.
But the fact you laughed at 2 girls 1 cup makes me very afraid of you.

I've actually seen worse. I've seen things that make it look like a parody. I've seen things where the only solace was that nothing of beauty was destroyed in its making.MrGOH wrote...
