I said you haven't contributed ANY mods... of ANY kind. There are a lot of people who don't create and share mods, but at least they have the good sense to appreciate the people who do.

It's been several days (and apparently some inflamed passions) since my initial posts in this thread and, after some reflection, I thought to stick my oar into this particular pond again.  To plagiarize the Bard a bit: I come not to bury nude mods, but to praise them.

My initial knee-jerk "OMG, you pervs!" (albeit more thoughtfully stated, I'd like to think) position was unreasonable, the which dawned on me after some considered (and polite) exchanges with Cambios.  There's more to it than that, though.

So why the change of heart, you ask?

First, of course, is the simple fact that whatever nude mods are released will manifestly be mods.  If one doesn't like 'em, one doesn't have to use 'em.  Additionally, conflating nude mods with the inevitable "extended sex scene" mods is not reasonable.  There will be such mods, but they are as separate animal from nude mods.  Previous argument applies.  Bioware is not going to issue some secret patch that forces any player to see nekkid people or watch them do the wild thing in their games.

These, of course, are the most obvious arguments and the most often used.  The problem is that they are essentially defensive in nature.  What tends to be overlooked is the benefits that will accrue to the whole community from such mods.  What benefits, you ask?  Here are two specific examples to support my more general thesis.

1.  The person who fixes the godawful hand models will most likely do so in a nudity mod.

2.  The person who fixes the "is that a life vest in your shirt or are you just happy to see me?" female body model will most likely do so in a nudity mod.

Historical note:  There's a reason the inflatable life vest worn by aviators was called a "Mae West".

It occurred to me that I'd been using nudity mods in DAO for a long time and for reasons that had nothing to do with nudity.  The wondeful mods like Natural Bodies and Realistic Look gave me just what their names imply, better and more natural body models.  You know, the things that all the gorgeous clothing and armor models hang on.  Once theses better body models are available, rest assured that some talented skinners will quickly produce "modesty" versions which will still provide the use of these vastly superior models.  What will follow is a number of mods which will make use of the newly unlocked knowledge to provide us players even more modded goodness.  And that means more flexibility for us to tailor our individual games to suit our tastes and provide an even more satisfying gaming experience.

That's a good thing, isn't it?

On-Topic: Nudity wasn't one of the mods I ran for first for Origins, because I felt the game handled it to some extent pretty well, but in DA2 it's almost laughable and displays how much the media backlash from Mass Effect 1 hurt bioware's feelings.

Great point.

And fixing the hands can't come any sooner.

The only real nude mod I ever really want is one that actually makes my character (or companions) nude when I take all their armor off, or when they are in a sex scene. That's it. I don't want them running around nude all the time (though I don't object to people who do).

Best of all, as you mention, nude mods often come with major body model improvements, so its a win-win.

I actually cried out in disappointment when the screen faded to black, really? That's it?! I have terrorists, innuendo's and violence abound, but I can't have at least a little flesh? C'mon gaiz. I just wanna see a little more. Doesn't have to be the full shebang. Origin's was fine with me, although, I'll never complain about more?

I want better sex scenese too, nudity or no. That's something I think we'll need a toolset for, though

Remember back in the day (during the first Mass Effect) when we got to see someone's side and back? Yea, those were the good old days... I love how backwards these love scenes are going. Next game, afte kissing, our heros will put on some well insulated puffy parkas! :innocent:

Agreed. In a game where you can brutally murder your fellow man and woman nudity would be the breaking point. Because the human(Elf) body is the most offensive thing ever.

how can you conclude I'm an American? I'm Spanish (placed at South Europe, not South America ), The most important issue here is which country your from  or which culture you belong?  Well, then, why is the moral of ONE country the only right? not freedom of choice?.

My respect for different views and cultures going to propose 2 versions of the same game according to UK and U.S.. My questions are personal opinions, it has not me who has named any country or culture to support my views.

I regret that there are people so sensitive about this issue, but I respect those who do not want mid-naked or naked, But do not understand why it must be the only option for any player. I will respect your choice;, respect mine, do not wish to impose a single for a few players solution on most global and diverse players.

Only real questions I'd put to the mod authors of those listed in this thread are :

1. Is this an always nude mod thing?

2. If not always nude, I'm guessing someone has adjusted the script for the in-game rendered cutscene to unequip armours to show the nudity during the sex scene (or lack there of), at least at the tail end when the deed is done?

Basically, an always nude/transparent clothing model replacement/repaint, even if claiming to provide a form of immersion for the player, is useless other than to provide a win in the "I Wanna See Boobies!" column.

Anders: He comes to your house, talks to you, kisses you, then you pull back to the bed for some smooching and making out. Fade to black. Everything up til this point is perfect. Fade back in, and Hawke is by the fireplace, in house clothing. Meh, but I guess nudity isn't terribly appropriate here, either. Anders is fully clothed, but with no intent of leaving. Why is he fully clothed? Makes me wish Anders had some house clothing of his own. That's the only part that bothers me in this scene. I'd almost rather them both be in their undies, since he should at least be in some form of 'not fully dressed up again'.

Fenris: There is hot up-against-the-wall kissing, then fade to black. Ok. Fade back in, Hawke is in undies on the bed (nudity wouldn't be out of place here, but not necessary) and Fenris is fully clothed by the fireplace. In THIS instance, fully clothed fits- he's walking out the door, he was only staying around for Hawke to wake up.

Isabela: You get jumped and carry her into the bedroom wildly smooching, collapse onto the bed, start stripping, though only get as far as the 3 daggers before fade to black. Being nude prior to this would make zero sense as well.

Unless we get a toolset that allows for new scenes, sticking nudity into any of the above just wouldn't fit. I have absolutely NOTHING against such mods, mind you, and I have several for different games I play, since they often have more attention to detail and are of higher quality than base models. I'm just not sure how well it would fit in with the current scenes.

I agree with this. I would actually rather have better/extended sex scenes than a nude mod, but I get that they're entirely different, and it's silly to talk as though I have to pick one over the other. I guess what I'm saying is that nudity isn't nearly as much of an issue for me as the... lacking... sex scenes. I don't care about dicks and nipples or anything, but they're just so short
