I haven't done a playthrough with Carver yet.
Favorite: Varric and Bethany (Damn, I should have listened to my mother.)
Least Favorite: Isabela. I didn't need a second rogue in my party so I barely got to know her. Then she left near the end of Act 2 and never returned.

Favorite: Fenris, Isabela, and Varric (Team Snark!). Anders as well, he was incredibly well written.
Least: Merrill.
She's adorable as a button, but dear god she's ridiculously Naive and really harms the people around her.

Favorite: Merrill and Sebastian
Least favorite: Anders. Thought he was annoying in Awakening, but he and I became bitter rivals in this game.

Hmm. favorite is the toughest part of the question.
1. Varric- Sarcastic dwarf plus level headed.
2. Isabela- Thief with a good heart and inappropriate humor
3. Anders- There still is a good chunk of him from awakening but by the end he is shattered.
4. Merrill- She is so clueless and adorable when she rambles. though at times she is a bit blind.
Least favorite is kinda obvious
1. Aveline- Dull ans ZZZZ...
2.Sebastian- grow a pair you choir boy.

Least favorite: Fenris...he's so bitter about everything...no humor whatsoever. And I guess Isabela...I like her okay but gameplay wise she kinda sucked.
Favorite: Anders: LI and the healing really came in handy. Varric gotta love him! And Merrill: loved her too.

I liked all the characters to be honest. The ones I liked the most: Aveline, Varric and Fenris. The ones I liked the least: Anders (creeps me the hell out) and Sebastian.

Favorite: Varric, hands down
Least Favorite: Merrill
I guess I'm alone in liking Sebastian. I get his principles and his struggle to understand exactly where his path lies. I wish the character had been more fully fleshed out, because setting aside Aveline and Varric, he was the only companion who seemed to have his personal **** together, or who spent any time in self-contemplation instead of charging bull-headed through life on an unswerving course no matter who might get trampled along the way. That in itself is admirable.

Fenris always whines about mages and Sebastian is the Chantry's little b***h, so both of them are tied for my least favorite. Fenris only redeems himself when he rejoins at the end, realizing the plight of mages is the same as his own plight of slavery.
Of all the others, I cannot choose who is my favorite. I'm attached to them all in different ways.
Merrill - Cute and clueless/Romance
Varric - Hilarious and best bud
Isabela - Funny especially around Varric
Aveline - Like another sister
Anders - Like a mage brother

I really liked most of them, especially Varric, Isabella Avelline and Merril.
Varric because it is easy to make him a real friend, a guy whose cynicism does not overshadow the fact that he can be loyal, fun and a good guy.
Merril because she reminds me a lot from Tali, a more extreme version of social ackwardness. Somehow the blood magic gives her another side and reinforce her obsessions but still, she is lovely.
Isabella is confusing at times. She´s overtly sexual (nice, it gives her more personality!) and fun to listen. In fact, I love Kruger´s voice and it just fits her. And well, there is a serious side on her I really love; like a conversation with Merrill when the second wishes she had Isabella´s life for hers has been dull and boring. Isabella replies that she wishes not, because Merrill is a good-hearted person.
Aveline is way too serious on a normal basis but her scarce relax lines show that, in a different way than Varric but for the same results, she really cares about you.
And dislike, well, Sebastian and Anders. Fenris was kind of meeeh, get the stick out of your ass but well, fine.
Anders becomes a murdered and a fanatic. Sebastian is the same but for the other side and when he threatened me it was like "I´m gonna cut you in half, little holier than thou ****". I horribly dislike people who thing that God is on their side no matter what and both are of that kind.

I guess Varric has to be the winner here, if only because a dwarf with that that kind of attitude had to be made of win. Isabella a close second, mostly for offering to lend Bethany the Spear of Maferath.
Losers would be... Fenris I guess? Just plain dull. Or Anders. Annoyingly written lunatic. Both twins were rather flat in character too. Geez, I miss Shale and Morrigan...

Hrm... I really liked Merril.. But overall I think I liked Isabella a bit more.
My least favorite was definitely Carver. Yes, Little Brother, come with me to the Deep Roads. Anders, your services will not be required. Muahaha...

My favourite has to be Varric, he's so much fun and brilliant best friend material. Also, he's probably the only companion who never annoys me in any way. Oh, and he opens all the locked chests, yay for that! Fenris is my 2nd favourite, mmm that voice. He responds to rivalry replies pretty well too.
My least favourite is Sebastian, he's such a stick-in-the-mud >.> I never used him outside of his personal quest. Which is a shame, I like his accent. Anders is a close second, I keep comparing him to Awakening... and it feels like he's a stranger. A bit too fanatic too (like most of the mages in the whole game)

Favorite was Isabella with a close second to Bethany. I could not stand Merrill though it might not been as bad if the elf model hadn't changed. Still far to whinny for me.

Favourite: Varric extremely likeable and entertaining. Perhaps the most likeable and entertaining character in the Dragon Age series.
Honourable mention: Aveline. I really didn't think I'd like her, I was even annoyed with the fact that she was the only tank, but after just a few hours of her tanking, I never wanted anybody else to fill that role, ever.
Least favourite: Anders. It must be said that he was my favourite character in Awakenings. Not only did he not have any humour left (except for a couple of times), he even got quite offended by mine. Left is only dullness, that and crazy idealism. In the end I had to do the right thing.
Honourable mention: Sebastian for being boring and for not taking his kingdom like a man.

Favourite: Anders. He has had a place in my heart since Awakening XD
Least Favourite: Hmmm.... A tie between Fenris and Carver.
Fenris = because of his voice.... it is cringe worthy.
Carver = he is an ass hole.
