So far, based on one play through:
Fave: Varric. He becomes you're trusty side-kick and a great friend over the course of the game.
Least: Fenris. Total ****hole. You can't do anything nice for him and he's just a total d!ck. I'll give him another chance in my next game, but he rubs me the wrong way.
Who's your favorite and leat favorite Companion?

Fav: The Arishok, he was totally my Companion, he just never accepted a group invite
Least Fav: Fenris, why? Because he's emo. And a Raiden wannabe.

It surprised the heck out of me, but my favorite companion was probably Varric. I thought he'd be an arrogant ass, but he was a genuinely nice guy, and refreshingly amusing when comparied to all the other misery.
My least favorite was Isabella. She just has no redeeming qualities, as far as I'm concerned. Well, okay, she doesn't like slavery. That's one. That being said, Fenris and my Hawke didn't get along at all and while he had his reasons, he was kind of a d**k.

I enjoyed all of the characters in DA2 though I'll admit I favoured Aveline, Varric and Anders enough that they became my power party by the end of the game.
My ONE exception is Sebastian. He was the least fleshed out, but what he did have as a character irritated me. Telling people that the reason they're suffering is because it's part of some bigger picture/divine will is the quickest in gaining -100 disapproval from me.

I couldn't stand Fenris, being a mage he always complained about how mages were all evil, and I wanted to kill him. I don't care how troubled you are, you shouldn't base your opinion of a whole type of people on a single person. I happily killed him. I also didn't like anders because if you told him you don't want to get into a relationship with him he automatically gets like +100 rival, he took it way too far in the end too. I wish I'd killed him earlier.

I loved Varric. He is just so awesome.
Even though Carver was all whiny and stuff, I had a soft spot for him, my little bro.
I liked Anders, but I found him a little on the annoying side with his damn mage rants and he was a bit of a jerk, I couldn't believe it when he said it would have been better if Merril was dead and not Marethari! I totally wanted an option to tell him to shut up or something. And then the end... er, I knew when he put that black coat on he would do something crazy lol. And collecting **** from a sewer??? That should've rang a bell in my head ---> tons of fertilizer being bought at Reno Depot usually = BOMB! lol.
I really tried to like Fenris, but he just got on my nerves sooo much. I can't stand his voice for one.
Didn't really get to know much about Isabela b/c she took off.
That said, I didn't really HATE any characters. I loved them all for different reasons. But yeah, Varric was my fave by far.

I have a few favorites. Mostly Bethany, Merril, and Varric. Bethany's great and interesting, I kind of wish she was in the game all the way through. Merril's cute as a button. And Varric's hilarious and surprisingly caring. I laughed my butt off when Merril was like 'It's totally safe, I walk through alleys all the time and nothing happens!' and Varric responded with 'Yes, and that's costing me a fortune!' I was like: Aww, Varric's paying for bodyguards for Merril!
Least favorite...hrm. Carver most definitely, but other than him (he seems almost designed to be annoying) I'd have to say Isabela. She just seems so shallow in general.
Gameplay-wise though, here's my usual loadouts:
Mage: PC, Merril or Anders, Aveline or Fenris, Varric
Rogue: PC, Anders, Aveline or Fenris, Merril
Warrior: PC, Anders or Aveline, Merril, Varric
Varric is ALWAYS in my party unless I'm a rogue.
I just wish there was a rogue-focused archer specialization.
I want Varric's specialty.

I would have turned those lines against him: not executing Anders and delivering overkill serves a higher divine plane so keep you army to yourself or I´ll have to kill you and your dudes to follow said divine plan.

Favourite: Merrill - the babbling was just cute and her innocence in party banter made me laugh sometimes - if you combine her with Isabela it's even better, plus you see a sweeter side to Isabela too.
Close second: Isabela, but I'd say only if you romance her. She's similar to Morrigan in that the best of her comes out if you manage to tug at her heart strings.
Least Favourite: Fenris - for awhile I bounced between liking and disliking him but as the game drew on I became more irritated with his character. He was just as bad as the magisters he complained about, a total closed-minded zealot and became the monster he hated basically; the only thing that kept me liking him for awhile was the fact he was voiced by Balthier (FFXII).

Favorite is Varric. He's the only companion who ever seems able to look past the tip of his nose and see things from the other people's points of view. I loved the way he supported pretty much everyone else in the party, simply because that's what friends do.
I also have a soft spot for bards and storytellers. And Bianca|Varric is the single greatest love story never told.
My least favorite, I think, were Anders and Fenris. Difficult to tell which fundamentalist I disliked more, really. Maybe if I try more carefully to get Fen friendly rather than Rivalrous I'd like him more, will have to try. Potentially Isabella, but I have yet to do a playthrough were I interact with her to a significant degree so I can't really comment.

Only one I really disliked was Sebastien, he really got on my nerves. I *heart* all the other characters though. Merrill, I alternated between wanting to squeeze her or strangle her, but she was so adorable. Anders, Fenris and Isabela were my dream-team, with Anders definitely being the favorite.

One playthrough, and Aveline was my favorite with a female (Meliyah)Hawke. Its funny that they were the exact opposite in philosophy and the way they acted, but even then they were still able to sit down and call each other friend. Great writing.
My least favorite was Merrill, and i didnt hate her but her obsession with that mirror and the whole using of blood magic werent sitting well with me. Her my Hawke ended up together in the end though, cause Merrill proved herself in battle and finally saw the error in her ways. So in the end I guess their wasnt a character I hated.

Favorite: Anders (despite end-game), Varric (basically awesome incarnate), Carver (what can I say, I have a brother like this already . . . I'm used to it.
)
Least favorite: Fenris (my very existence seemed to tick the guy off) and Isabela (she's charming, but also pretty selfish and self-serving, which got old).
Although overall I liked nearly everyone. Isabela and Fenris are my least favorites, but I still like them.

Favorite: Varric, of course, and then Carver.
Least favorite: That's actually a misnomer, because I really liked all the characters. Probably Sebastian, because he got pretty preachy.

Favorites. Merrill, Varric, Sebastian and Isabella.
Middlemen: Fenris/Craver
Dislike: Anders.
Honestly, I'd like to know what people saw in Anders. He went from a witty jackal, to a emo teenager. Here's the smallest violin Ander's let me play it for you.

Favorite: Anders (mostly due to Awakenings, he was way to angsty in DA2 imo)
Least Favorite: Fenris, like Angryjoe said "Emo hair, big sword, it's like he's from final fantasy". And way too emo and boring, never used him.

If I have to choose only one... :/
Most Favorite: This was a tough choice, between Carver and Varric, but Carver has a bit of a lead. He's a challenging character to get along with, but I enjoyed wreaking havoc in Kirkwall with my little bro. It was sad to see him leave with the Grey Wardens, but I got to see him three more times, so it's all good.
Least Favorite: Again, really hard to choose..but out of Anders, Merrill and Isabela, Anders takes the cake. I loved him in Awakening, but in DA2, I just didn't get the same Anders vibe. I can accept he's merged with Justice/Vengeance, but his personality isn't the worst thing about him at all. What goes down at the end of the game...I won't be able to forgive him for murdering Grand Cleric Elthina and committing terrorism against the Chantry. Normally I like to side with the mages, but this guy makes it hard to do so.

LOVED Varric, he was perhaps the best well rounded character in the game, and was always there with a quip or helpful hint. I also liked Aveline, she keeps you grounded, isn't afraid to tell you off and is a huggable spazz at romance. Merril is growing on me in my second time around, didn't really like her the first time.
Middle Ground: Anders, purely because he is so interesting, he started off as a idealist, became jaded and angry, took justice in and vengeance festered, became part of his psyche. In the end his idealism became activism and anarchism, means justify the ends so to speak. Then KABOOM! He snaps and after sexing him up for six years your jaw drops while he's smiling and watching the flames. So eyah kind of liked him, and then you get shattered.
Not a fan of Fenris and Isabela the first time around, however I didn't much give them both much of a chance, therefore Fenris is my somewhat tank currently rather than Aveline and Isabela my sex kitten rather than Anders, so my opinion may change.
Sebastion is cringe worthy, he is somewhat redundant in comparison to Varric, and the personality, all religious, gah. And curse him for having an achievement to get him to rival or friend.

This is a tough choice. All the characters brought something that I liked. Bethany was at least honest and actually didn't take sides on the mage/templar debate. Aveline was a bit of a tight ass but I adored trying to play matchmaker for her. I can't hate a girl who loves a little justice. Varric is impossible to hate. Best one liners. I used to dislike Isabela for ditching me in my first game, but now I squeal everything she speaks. Merrill is just too adorable to hate. I'd feel like it would be kicking a puppy to hurt her. Fenris, also, I cannot hate. I even rivalmanced him first game. I just couldn't hate him, no matter how hard he yelled. He always apologized and repented. Anders is tragic. I try to hate him but I keep remembering Awakening and love him again.
So, Sebastion is at the bottom. Never liked Chantry people.
