Least favorite companion... Well now that I've had a good play through. Sebastian.
Wines too much to be the prince of anything
But it's good to know that sten actually WAS a title from the Ranks of the Barasad.
And not just Stens actual name.
Who's your favorite and leat favorite Companion?

My personal favorite is Isabela... or Varric - don't make me choose between them, I can love them equally.
My "first play-throught" Hawke would choose Anders( thought I'm getting the impression that his "buddy" got crush on him... possible drama here) thought I'm impressed that he doesn't shove in his face this trashy manifests that Ander's keeps decorating his house in (what a shame there isn't a option to confront him about this)
The person that keeps pissing me off is (of course) Chantry Prince.

Loved Anders. I was an Alistair fangirl in Origins, and he managed to beat that. I was shocked when he blew up the chantry, but my rogue LadyHawke was mostly angry that he lied to her. The Grand Cleric had blood on her hands for doing nothing with her power. It blew me away when he comforted my Hawke after the Lily Killer quest. He made Alistair look like a total narcissist in comparison.
Hated Fenris. I had an instant aversion to his voice, so it may not be totally fair. But he was also so full of spite. Anders at least fought with himself to control Vengeance (even if he failed). Fenris didn't even try to moderate his views - not that I could see, anyway.

He was a favorite and went everywhere with me......up until he killed the sweet old lady Grand Cleric and the rest of the innocent chantry sisters. It was at that point I realised my go everywhere buddy from awakening was no longer there.Jon Jern wrote...

Least Favorite: Merrill - Super inconsistent personality. She seems naive and awkward for the majority of the game, but suddenly becomes very articulate and stern when anything about the Eluvian comes up? It seemed like a very strange personality transition to me.
She's got that whole Nerd Hyperfocus thing going on where the Eluvian is concerned. Which now that I think of it makes it clear why I like her so much - she's the most ginormous nerd in all of Thedas.
Least favorite companion was Carver because no matter what I did he was always hating on me.

favorite is isabela. she cracks me up with her banter between the other companions in the beginning and then while romancing her she actually develops more than any of the other companions.
least favorite is fenris, the brooding mage-hating ex-slave just annoys the hell out of me.
i have to say varric is my second favorite, and bethany would have been if she didnt become unusable by act 2

My favorite character has to be my sister Bethany. They wrote her in very well.
She saved me from letting that woman slit my throat, she let the Chantry take her even if it meant going Tranquil.
She's strong and funny and I hope they come out with a DLC to continue her role.
I have not finished the game, so I do not know what happens to Bethany, but I'm hoping for the best.
My least favorite character was Sebastian (and we all know why lol). I'm hoping they have another DLC with him to have an option for further romance to give up his robes and be with you.
Fenris was kinda getting on my nerves with all his negativity, but you have to love the bad boys.
Sexy, bad and in a bad mood..that's how ya get the girls lol!

Favs: Anders, Aveline, Varric. Guess who was in my party all the time.
Anders was well written as the tortured revolutionary. While he ended up fairly bat**** crazy, he didn't cave and went through with his plan while still making the effort to make sure it was all on him. Props. That or he just thought my fem-mage!Hawke was that awesome.
Aveline had standards. 'nuff said. Even when it was easy to just back off and do nothing, she went for throats. And took my dog for a walk so I didn't have to. Maybe as a chick I related with her better as someone who made a name for herself. Oh, and she didn't cry and **** like Carver, she made her own name for herself.
Varric has excessive chesthair and is the perfect sidekick. Snarky fem-mage!Hawke wouldn't have been as awesome without Varric. Everything out of his mouth is pure win. Actual win, none of that tiger-blood garbage.
Dislikes:
Sebastian: Seriously, Alistair grew up in the Chantry too and was MUCH less annoying than this guy. Could he be any more naive? Merrill was too, but it wasn't annoying with her.
Carver: Cool story bro.

I don't understand the hate against Fenris; one-dimensional? How? I could see where someone wouldn't like him for being a brooding pain in the rear, but you can see why, I hope? His whole life, up until Act 3, was defined around being a slave or being hunted like a dog. If I was enslaved by mages for most of my life, I would be a bit mad too.
Fenris also recognizes that, even though all mages face the possibility of possession, they can be strong-willed. He specifically mentions so to Anders in a banter, by way of mentioning either Bethany (if Hawke is a rogue/warrior) or yourself, if you're a mage. He's also loyal to the point of staying with Hawke, be it mage or otherwise, even with present company (Anders and Merrill). And even though he is quick to anger and to lash out at you, he does apologize and admits his wrong. These are what I like about Fenris.
That said, Fenris is my favorite character (and perhaps I am a bit biased; I did romance him--that voice...mm!), while being tied with Isabela and Varric. The pirate, if you befriend her, comes through for you in the end, and that more than makes up for her promiscuity and brashness, in my opinion. And Varric is easy-going in general, and is there for Hawke all the way, for good or for ill.
My least favorite were Anders and Merrill. I had disliked Carver during my Mage playthrough at first...until later on in the game, and he redeemed himself in my eyes. Anders, while I do appreciate the ... interesting writing, I just cannot agree with him. The moment he came back from him companion quest in the Chantry, I was like, "Yep. You're nuts. What the f* did you do?" Merrill...displeases me, to say the least, in that her ignorance and refusal to see reason endangers everyone around her.
Edit:
Although, I do like Merrill for one thing. During my Mage playthrough, I had romanced Fenris...and the banter between those two in relation to the romance...is cute.

Aveline always made me smile. Especially her inter-charecter dialogue with the others. Like when she refused to suggest Carver as a guard.
Varric was probably my least favorite. I didn't see much of Sebastian during my first play through but he really pissed me off at the end of the game when I sided with the mages.

Varric, he was such a cheeky ****, I loved him.
Fenris, however, I just could NOT stand. He was such an over-badass, emo fangirl attraction.

favourite in looks and persona: Isabela
favourite style: Fenris
favourite in spells and usefullness: Aveline & Bethany & Anders (Aveline as tank, Bethany as healer / mage dps is epic but u lose her most of game so replaced with anders until the end of the game where u get her back) but gotta admit Varrick is cool too, as for Merril she is very childish and take all the wrong decisions which annoyed the crap out of me in 1st playthrough, but she can be very destructive with spells but still shes ANNOYING.

I like Fenris because he is the only elf in DAII that retains the DAO elf looks. He doesnt have a gigantic bald forehead and huge protruding brow like all the other elfs in DAII.

Favorite: Merrill just barely edges out Varric. Varric's the man, but Merrill is just so adorable and earnest...
Least favorite: Janders (perfect nickname). Anders was great in Awakening, but not-Anders lost everything that made Anders fun and interesting and replaced him with a nutjob that (SPOILER). And I'm very, very pro-mage.(Janders himself, I'll note, says he's not truly Anders any more).

Favorite: Merrill. The cuteness, it is irresistable.. D:
Least Favorite: Toss up between Isabela and Sebastian. The former because she's so damn hard to earn approval with, and the latter because he's a bit too squeaky-clean for my liking. That, and Varric has always been my default archer/crossbow man in the group, so Sebastian never really found a proper niche for himself.

My favourites would be Isabela, Aveline and Varric. These are the adults in your party - their personae are well developed and they tend to be the least psychotic of the bunch (i.e. they don't go around blaming other people for their self-inflicted problems).
Isabela and Aveline make a great team in dialogue, I thought they were extremely well written and it's pretty ironic that Isabela is frequently the only party member that will offer the others well-meaning advice on their personal issues, even if she is completely flippant and self-possessed. The difference between her and Aveline is that she doesn't solicit her advice to other people and only gives her opinion when she's asked for it. She's also perfectly comfortable with every aspect of her identity - even the less savory parts - which is rare for a RPG character.
Then you have the whiny teenager cohort - Carver, Fenris and Merrill.
Of the three, Merrill is quite possibly the worst abomination that Bioware has ever created. She's selfish, self-righteous, obnoxious, pig-headed, shallow, stupid and appeals directly to the vainglorious teenage audience that Bioware has aimed her squarely at. They deserve her. Even her friendship is completely conditional and toxic - she doesn't like Hawke for who he/she is but rather what he/she can do for her.
She is psychopathic to the point where even after her personal tragedy, she refuses to own up to one iota of responsibility whatsoever, leaving me completely unsympathetic. She also resembles a praying mantis/stick-insect hybrid and is quite aesthetically revolting.
Anders was just kind of creepy and obsessive.
