So I have this quest to fight one and take its heart yet, I can't do it until I start a quest for that elvan mage to fix her mirror or something? How do I get that quest. I'm in her house and its not doing anything. Just "by the dread wolf my house is such a mess...." or some crap. That's all she says. What do I do?

The Varterral wont spawn until you get Merrill's act II companion quest. I made the same mistake, running around Sundermount trying to find it.
