Dude, I played harder **** when I was 5. This proves nothing :l
Also, I can teach a 5 year old how to play chess, and get him to win as well.
Does that mean that chess requires no strategy?

Having just turned 17 I find it funny how the older generations seem to think our generation is ruined despite we the fact we received better education than most and are probably the most qualified generation ever.

Still. One could wonder if (over) exposure to Violence and killing is one of the wisest things you should do to a 5 year old. The results of that might only show years after.

Remember that games like these are labelled 18+ for a reason.

As I said before. My young nephew has skills I never had when I was that young. But in other areas. Kids grow up slower. In terms of reading, writing.

He plays everything I do. From De Blob 2, to fight night champion, to bulletstorm, to trinity souls. So he has some skills. Granted. I have to do the level ups, or in some games, boss fights, but it blew me away, he did this demo without dying once. I was like damn son. That was epic.

i have to agree that kids are increasingly adept with tech and can therefore understand "shoot things" and such i know my nephews can (i have 4 and only the 2 year old isnt capable of using the Xbox) , age ratings are still theyre for a reason. and on another note being able to pull off part of the game aka again "shoot things"  or "kill stuff" the clear overall understanding of the game such as levelling up, effect of choices and story are generally lost so not really any point in them playing at early ages. I will say though my 14 year old nephew despite being under the control of my sister @ home generally if he wanted to play sumthing hes not supposed to will just play it else where since very few parents actually act to control these things nowa days. but it is truly amazing what theyer capable of compared to what we were when we were young. maybe thats because theyre was a hell of lot less of it around and it wasnt so easily available... even my one year old son has the understanding when sitting on my lap to put one had on the mouse and the other on my keyboard .....

look..I criticize this amateur rendition of a game as much as anyone.

But your "points" prove nothing.

it was the demo..the first part is "over the top" because of Varric's story....when he "re-tells" it "truthfully" it's the BEGINNING OF THE GAME..so of course it's easy as pie.

so in at least that aspect I will defend the game. Your children (if it's even true) beating the demo by mashing buttons means nothing...that part was MEANT to be gotten by with little thought.

Ape Child. I totally agree. We never had any technology in my house when I grew up. And when I did get a second hand commodore 64 or atari. Yes. 2nd hand. I got 2nd hand games. Kids dont know how to be kids anymore. On other hand. Dont learn diciplline, or learn basic skills.

Bob. Pokemon. No. Hell no. Pop my eyes out. If he played that. I would cry. I would rather him play any other vaporware game. Sure some people have a huge pokemon following. But to me. Its so annoying. Even the theme song. Arrghh.

As for game rateing. This is one argument I could have for hours. I was watching horror movies at a very very early age. Didnt hurt me. I was like. Maybe 12, 13, watching full on horror movies. Never hurt me. Sure. 5 year old is damn young. But he sits there while we watch CSI or Dexter, hehe.
Kids grow up fast. But as for game rateing, doesnt bother me. Its all the other crap. Like bad teachers at school, or bullies, its not game rateing.

Sacred. Yeah. It surprised me to. He plays games when I get them. So I played demo 2nd. I was like. Dont fail. Please for love of god. Dont fail and be beat by a 5 year old. So I played demo on mage, leveled up, and still, my nephew is like, keep pressing the buttons, when I was slowly pausing, using strategy, but yeah, it suprised me, but kids do learn things quick.

Ticladesign. I was 12, 13, watching full on horror movies with my dad. Didnt hurt me. Thats just such rubbish. Your going to turn into Dexter, if you watch this, or play this stuff. Its not my choice. Its on my nephews parents. Which is my sister. A female at that. So shes no soccer mom, putting her kid in cotten wool. I am the most peaceful, non violent person you could ever meet. But I love horror. That proves my point. Its just the media turning it around.

Suron. I can teach my nephew, oh so much. It just means there is no real tactics in the game. Just button mashy. So sure my nephew has skills. But if there was more balance, tactics in demo, he would of failed, which he didnt. Because its about how fast you can press A. Or X, depending on systems. And sure start of games are easy, but this is beyond easy.

Bob. No. Not only child. He has a 1 year old sister. And no. I am not only child. I have a sister, which she had my nephew, hehe.

Killa2k. I think it comes down to afew things. 1st. The grandparents. My parents are the one spoiling the kid. Not the parents. As they cannot afford a great deal. So its the grandparents spoiling the kid more. 2nd. The grandparents again. Want the grand child, to have things they never had as a child. And they also want the kid to be happy. Is it right. Hell no. But its the world we live in.

well despite waht ppl think about and weather people like it or not age ratings are theyre for a reason, it doesnt mean thet if u watch a horror @ age 10 ur going to go out and kill somebody, but its also not clearlly understood what these things actually do to a developing mind these debates have gone on forever and a day... i also watched horror films at a VERY young age and recieved no ill effects but every person and more importantly every mind is different...and different things affect different people in different ways.

We are a gaming family so I guess ours are spoiled by default just because we as parents have not given up our "childhood" hobby. I'd never let them near a 3k PC, but it's fine if they break the odd controller, although we always make sure to supervise Wii and move just in case.

I don't really want them to grow up like that though. If they don't find outside interests later I'm going to force them Posted Image

Generally though I think it's very useful, FF and Pokemon have taught them basic math and problem solving. They don't read as much as I did at that age, but then I had less distractions.

Why would anyone even allow a 5 year old to play a game marked 18?

anyone is capable of excusing what they allow to be given and used by theyre children they or u can make all the excuses in world dont change the fact that the parents allow it to happen, simple as really....if i started that crap with my nephews (and ive wanted to give the eldest a good few things that were not allowed by my sister a few times as hes an exact replica of me @ his age) my sister would come down on me like a ton of bricks out of a **** storm... parents should be in control if u dont have the control it lies at your feet ( again just an opinion)

This is a perfect example. How dumbed down DA2 is. If a 5 year old can complete demo. Which I assume is in normal difficulty. Listen to this bioware. He completed Demo. No health potions, no level up. Just bashing buttons to death. He won the game dynasty warriors style. Hehe. Cant stop laughing.

My nephew age 5. Has been gameing for past year.  He cannot read. So leveling up was not a option. And he wouldnt hand over controller for me to level up. As he was so engrossed in his button mashing.  But he could work out skill buttons to press, change character, but he couldnt work out skill wheel, so he never healed. Did you hear that bioware, he finished Demo and never healed once. He only got back health, after each fight finished.

So he was playing as rogue. I was like. Hey buddy. Hey little dude. Let me level you up. No uncle. Leave me alone. I am gamin.  So we get to 2nd boss. I was like. Hes going to kick his butt. Hes going to throw the controller at my 50 inch tv. He was running around, some how the master, which is me. Taught him circle straffing. So he was button mashing and circling straffing, until that big boss died. Granted all other party members died, but his rogue ended the boss.

After nearly falling off chair laughing. We got to the nex part, the town. He looked at me. And said. What did you say about leveling me up. I was like. Hey dude. Dont worry. Continue, hehe.

SO finished. Not using health, not leveling up. And on rogue. The hardest character, As if I had him on mage. He would of totally blown away enemies.

So they call this game more indepth, so much more features. Hehe. If a 5 year old can fly through demo. With only a year gameing experience. Hehe. Really tells you how watered down game is. Posted Image

MarieFox. Why let a child. You obviously dont have kids or arent around them. Hehe.
Even kids shows. Have some mature rateing stuff. Most boys are into ninjas, or wrestling, still a violent thing. Ever heard of a peaceful ninja, or wrestler. No. Boys will be boys. Is it the same for girls. I dont know. Maybe they will be into true blood, or buffy the vampire. Or whatever that other cult vampire movie is, which I am sure young kids watch, cant remember name, but its a series.

As my above posts. I was brought up on horror movies my dad and I, watched every weekend, even when I was age 10. Didnt effect me. I am very peaceful person. This rateing debate has to end.

Not only that. We watch news at night, with earthquake disaster, robberies, its around dinner time, and kids can see that. So what. We turn around all mirrors, TVs, no.

Pardon this comment. But I am not religious. My family is not. Most religous people bang there drum about rateings. Rateings dont matter.

Killa2k. Yeah read above mate. Same thing. Age rateing means nothing.
As for different minds. Well if someone has a unstable mind. There going to snap no matter what. They could snap watching pokemon. If there unstable, there unstable, nothing you can do about it, there going to snap no matter what.

u misunderstand me slightly having access to a pc or console doesnt make a child spoilt... acess times/usage, and access to age apropriate games is however controlable. im not going to stop my son from using consoles but im not going to allow him to play 18 age rated games @ 5 years old maybe thats just me. I will also be encouraging my son to find outside interests. A spoilt child gets what they want when they want and the parent tend to just roll over and play dead and as much as im sure my son and my nephews love that personally me and my missus are the government in this house and they all know it. :)

And to all you complaining about game rateing.

Religion. Its evil, to many crimes in name of it.

But kids are taught religion early age. Brain washed. Religion is far more evil, than some mature movie or mature game. Anyone argueing with that is pure wrong. Religion is the thing you should ban from everyone, not only kids.

Before. We get the Locked. End of line.
I am here to say. Religion, game rateing discussion ends here. Just my 2 cents.

The point at hand. A 5 year old can complete DA2 Demo. So please. For my sake, yours.
Keep this topic on topic.
