AnyOldName. What do you think of DA2. I am rambling on about everything else. But just curious. What do you think of it.
Sadly, I am very disappointed. If it wasn't the sequel to DA:O, then I wouldn't really notice the game, it would just pass me by. But I downloaded the demo knowing something of the idea: you play someone called Hawke and the game charts his / her rise to power in a single city, but not knowing the game play had been changed. At first, I thought the demo was good. The speed of it and the graphics seemed impressive. I don't play many games and when I do, they are usually turn-based strategy with people the size of my fingernail standing on hexes, so DA2 was like sticking my head out of a car window doing 100kph.

But after playing through it and reading more, I realised how much was missing from DA:O and became very disillusioned. It is a great shame. I haven't decided whether to buy the game or not yet. I almost pre-ordered but didn't after the demo came out.
I like to use tactics. In DA:O you can do this in real time because things move at a speed you can interact with. I would pause sometimes when needed. I played the whole thing on Nightmare and beat the Harvester at the end of Golems of Angmarrak on something like my 30-40th attempt.

But in DA2, things zip along so fast that tactical play is difficult. You have to make so many course corrections to keep the characters doing what you want because they finish their current tasks so quickly . Positioning doesn't seem to mean much because the characters teleport or blur across the battlefield like Jim Carey on crack and the lack of top-down camera makes positioning difficult.
And DA:O was what is called "realistic fantasy". I enjoy that. DA2 has super-backflips and casual teleporting by non-magical characters and enemies explode when you stab them! Why would they do that?
I can let you know more when I have played more. I don't begrudge anyone else enjoying it. I'm sure many will and I wish them happiness at it. But for me and my PC, I think it is a great let down.
