Well, the question's right there in the title, really. Which class is more fun to play as a primary damager - 2-handed warrior or a mage?
So.. Mage or 2H warrior for ultimate damager?

Speaking from personal experience, I'd say that a two-handed warrior is much more enjoyable between the two. After the first ten minutes, you'll never have to listen to Carver again.

Depends on if you like to be right in the action or have a more ranged approach.
W/ CCC both can be effective as damagers

Generally I prefer a more ranged approach - I plan to rely very heavily on skills, and autoattack only when no other options are available. However, I also would like to remain alive in the battles, and focus the management on my character and not others.
If I have to spend most of my time on the AI tanks just to keep my main mage alive.. it's not worth it. Conversely, if I have to spend most of the time micromanaging ai mages and leaving a warrior hawke on autopilot.. well, that's again not right.
But first and foremost, I'm looking to have a powerful character. I really enjoyed the mage class in DA:O - where it lied on the overall balance curve - and am now asking which class in DA2 is closer to that.

2H warrior is definitly the more damaging and the toughest.
Mages shine when they start using spells on staggered ppl, the 2H warrior makes those numbers just by hitting stuff... and is a lot tougher to boot.

I'd say if your goal is to be a destructive force of nature then go 2H. I haven't found a mage build that can compete with a 2H with blood frenzy + vanguard. I find with mage you have to diversify your talent points far more into the various spell schools. You are also more vulnerable to getting stun-locked to death but overall mage can be a bit more challenging and hence a bit more interesting on nightmare.

Yeah.. that's exactly my aim.
Also, for further info, it's aimed for Hard difficulty (so not nightmare and not normal either).

If you always enjoyed mages in most games like myself. Then you should obviously play a mage. That said, this isn't DA:O so don't expect it to play exactly like that did. Mages can be extemely enjoyable if you play smart, and learn to use CCC.

For damage? Wouldn't an archer be one of the best?

I'd have to play one, but I'm not sure they can keep up. They might be better for single-target damage or something, but in terms of "killing power" I'm pretty sure the 2h warrior has the archer beat. Honestly though, I'm not really an expert on character builds.

On a fight that only involved a single enemy yes but since nearly every fight in the game involves hordes of minions the 2H usually comes out on top becomes of the massive AE damage.

Yeah, I'm sure the archer is a valid option for some people, but I am just not an archer guy. At all.
As in, I just can't play one.
And yeah, in general I am a mage-kind of player, I'm just worried that they are neutered a lot in DA2 (going by what I can read here), and none of the specializations really seem interesting to me.

My archer is a crit monster with avrage damage being 300 per arrow. put that with hail of arrows and you are the ultimate crowd control.
