OK so my 2hW Hawke stats for damage are somthing like this ( not exact numbers)  41/ (65 dps).  I am not sure what number I need to concern myself with.  Thanks.

DPS is short for Damage Per Second.
It is how much damage you do each second, on average.

This stat is only based on your weapon damage, strength and attack speed.

Your real DPS will take into account of crit, critdamage, various armor, and resistance factors :D

The higher your brute damage, the more likely you are to interrupt enemies with your attacks, the higher your DPS, the faster they fall dead. DPS is a function of your base damage and the weapon style you are using. The values displayed don't seem to take into account any damage or attack speed buffs, just the base weapon's damage and attack speed and your attribute bonus.

So 65 is what I will be taking per swing Max? It won't always be that high, but thats the max without scoring a Crit.

No, you are doing 41 damage per swing, but are swinging every .63 seconds (or swinging 1.58 times per second).

So, say you are attacking something for 10 seconds - you swing ~16 times, doing 41 damage each time, for a total of 656 damage. You did those 656 damage over 10 seconds, so you did 65 damage per second (65 DPS).

You should mostly be worried about DPS. If you have a sword that does 100 damage but only swings once every 2 seconds, that's way worse than a sword that does 50 damage and swings 2 times every 1 second. The first sword looks like 100/(50 dps) and the other looks like 50/(100 dps), and in general, the second sword will do twice as much damage as the first.

Funny how a sword and shield warrior generally does more DPS too then a two hander, of course this being mitigated by the two hander hitting in a wider arc, therefore potentially doing more damage to large crowds...so doing a damager of a sword and shield warrior isn't all that difficult either.

OK I understand it better now thanks. I wish the 2H weapons get better. I can't take off Hayders Razor due to the Heath and Stamina bonuses. I have a few weapons that do more damage and look better, but can't match the bonuses.
