I loaded up the forums to look up a quest real quick, and I'm bombarded with threads about how terrible DA2 is, how boring it is, "stop making console games" etc.
I'm honestly surprised. I like DA2 more than I liked DAO.
I find the main character to be more interesting. While not as epic as Morrigan, I'm really enjoying my companionship with Fenris. He's an interesting character, imo.
The story is interesting. I am happy there isn't a typical "go to 3 seperate areas, do things there, then meet up at the end and kill a big bad dude" type storyline that has been around since Baldur's Gate. They experimented with a persistant city, and I LIKE it!
I like knowing that my interactions with Thrask changed the story later. How me saving a Templar from Blood Mages changes the story. How I get updated years later from a boy I helped out of the Circle.
Kirkwall feels like a living city, and it feels like my actions have consequences. During act 1, I cheated the smuggler chick out of her money. Then, when I visited Hightown at night, she ambushed me! That was awesome!
And the combat is easily the most entertaining combat I've ever played. It's fast paced, fun, and interesting. I get to use my wide variety of spells on different monsters to different effects. I queue up class-combos and dominate things. I feel powerful when I visit lowtown in act 3 and get attacked by thugs I 1-shot with fireball. I feel like my character has changed - instead of being the same throughout each act.
Kudos to Bioware. I love it. Thanks for experimenting.
Am I the only person who really loves DA2?

No, A lot of people enjoy DA2.
Its just most people who want there opinions heard are the ones who didn't enjoy it. The people who are enjoying it are too busy, well enjoying it.

No. I also think it's a good, although flawed, game. Yet, despite these flaws, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I ever enjoyed DA:O. Of course, the haters have decided that this particular subjective opinion is wrong, and everyone who has it is a 'retard'

No. There are plenty, but are being drowned out by "we have nothing to do in life but spam the forums with our tears" crowd. :-)

Granted, there are some things I think can be improved upon in DA2, but overall I think it's excellent. Ever since I got it last week I've barely been able to put it down.
The characters seem to have more dimension to them than they did in DA:O (Fenris, for example. His backstory is awesome).

Those of us enjoying it are playing it and have no time for the forums for the next week
. I got the feeling that most people enjoyed it, just it wasn't everything they were hoping for. I'm part of that crowd, but my expectations were low to start with so I'm having a surprising blast.

As much as it may seem so from these forums at the moment, you're not alone. If it wasn't for posting from work, I'd be too busy starting my second play through to be posting here.
DA 2 is by no means a flawless game, but neither was DA:O. The story in the first one was certainly more epic in scope, but the second one is much better told, and the combat mechanics are better too.
Frankly, the only thing I miss from Origins is the more diverse loot management (oh, and Morrigan).

Lots of people like it. For me, I am not into the story as much as I was with Origins. It could also be because I like to chose my race. It makes the game better.

Ofc not, alot of people like DA2 but as many don't like it. I think the user reviews was not as good as Bioware expected. I'm one of those who didn't like it btw! : )

You're not alone.
The vast majority of people who enjoy DA2 are busy playing and replaying DA2. Some people who love DA2 are on the forums and others.... well you can see for yourself.

I think its a good game and that they made improvements in some areas, my problem is they changed things that didn't need to be and "fixed" things to get the twitch market into it(I would say CoD but honestly I wont even generalize that much, even if Bioware does).
It's a good game and I am enjoying it, It's just not as good as DA:O and honestly it feels like a step back from the first game.

good for you?
If you can find something good in the game, all power to ya.
But we just can't look past all the negatives to really get as involved in this game.

I find the game decent. It's not bad at all but I wish they had more old stuff in it. Would rather have seen a direct sequel. The romances are pretty darn lame compared to first game. Not fond of seeing the same places over and over again. I mean in first game, the characters where AWESOME. They limited the game way to much. Would like to point out that starting to sell DLC's on the release day is also a big damn silly flaw.
Nah, go back to Dragon Age: Origin'ish story, romance style etc. cause to be fair, even the teletubbies makes more romance than this.
but yeah, Drake-on Age was decent. But then again I only paid £24 for it.

Who is we? Are you the Queen or King of some place?
Don't you mean: "But I just can't look past all the negatives to really get as involved in this game".
You don't need to make up a "we" in order to validate your opinion. It should stand on its own.

To put it simply to the OP: You're wrong. DA2 might not be an objectively bad game, but the Title is Dragon Age 2, and compared to Dragon Age: Origins it quite simply fails in every aspect of design and execution.
They essentially took the least important aspects of Origins, the combat and graphics, and made them the focus of the game. This came at the expense of the story (disjointed and unengaging) characters (shallow archetypes) and environment (Kirkwall has more in common with a prison than a city.)
This game isn't The Empire Strikes Back, it's Attack of the Clones. All flash and no fury.

Well forum communities are always very vocal (espacially when they have complaints and issues) and they are also a minority.
So what you read here in the forums is not really a mirror to what the majority of players might or might not think or like or whatever. Its just an indicator how a part of the gamers view the game.
People who are reading the forum and who enjoy the game are usually less vocal... and if they voice their oppinion they are quickly branded as "fanboys", which often leads to either a flame war or to them just shutting up... which further blurrs the use of forum communities in order to get how the game fares.
That being said... I do have some issues with the combat system (espacially the mindless spawning of creatures) and the dumbed down inventory... but all in all I do love the game (characters, background, story, ...).

The game is quite good, but I also count the the amount of people who have a problem with it, and its good to have more opinions than only the good ones also bad critic can help to develop future RPG's, to make them better than the last releases
The problem on DA2 isn not that it isn'T well developed (okey for nVidia cards with DX11 without beta driver its a mess) but the game suffers the lack of a epic storyline, with epic I mean something big to achieve.
In DA2 you only know that the CHampion is the reason for a great outbreak of happenings in the future. For some its a good Story, I like it aswell, but after you played through the game you're sitting in front of your computer and think..."thats it?" - And the last time I had that feeling was after playing through Divinity 2: Ego Draconis, after the ending scenes i was sittin in front of my Pc and thought... "WTF?!?!?!"
I wasn'T able to touch the computer for twowhole days because I was so ****ing stoned (in a negative way).
And I think the most people where treally happy with DA:O+Awakening because it was really really great you had a bigger area to interact, you had big choices to do and you were an honorable warden who was accused of being traitor.
The game is good but it would't stand a chance compared to DA:O, also DA:O had more developing time than DA2 and you really can see that this game lacks the time which DA:O had.
Its not bad but it is also not legendary it a good casual RPG which is able to compete agains many RPG's but doesn't plays in the top league.
cheerz

I'm loving it far more than I ever thought I would. My Hawke has, much to my surprise, became one of my favorite characters in my lengthy history of gaming. Its nearly offputting that I'm the most interesting and funny character in my group. And I do like most of my team.
Its not perfect by any means, but about the only major thing that bothers me is the lack of weapon selection. Not being able to use a sword on my swashbuckling rogue is nearly criminal. Especially given that the animations would have worked just fine.

nah youre not the only one ;-) everyone who makes the game bad should play it before and i mean not playing the intro, maybe the first act and then see whats come.....
the story is much better than the 0815 lord of the rings setting from DaO its more complicated and a lot more fun to live the story ^^ the characters a much funnier i love the discussions between the partymembers especialy varric and merril
in DaO i just like lelianna and morrigan maybe alistair a bit but nothing more this has completly changed now, fenris isn an absolutist i like it to be an enemie of him a playing around with isabella ^^
the fights are faster better, i never used the tactical sight in DaO so i wont miss it, some people are saying *what happens to tha tactical basement of the fights?* i would say play it on hard or nightmare there they should gain that experience again. The first real boss, the old stoneguradian
was more complicated than the archdeamon in DaO and that happend again in the fight with the arishok
or a giant spider that surprised me(just killed my entire party only varric survived cause a bug ^^ yes iam a buguser at this point of view). But that difficults disapper with a other character class, but then there will be new problems. In DaO i never have had any problems with any bosses, i usedt the whole game the same party morrigan, lelianna, allistair and me as rouge.(i was playing on nightmare)
but i also have to criticize that i'm not allowed to equip the whole party why?
or i miss the finishing moves in the fights, why's the game so laggy? ive got potent hardware but after an driver update for my graficcard it was more buggy than before, but i had to, cause the game crashed always a the same point. Some very unbalanced figths for example the arishok, i would like to beat him with my rouge, but i dont want to do it on easy mode, that sholud also be possible at all 4 difficult levels but it issnt you need to be a range sepcialized rouge -.- or is there a melee rouge who beats him at normal or higher in the duell?
^^ ähm back to the toppic cause this was all bad i have to say about the game, you can see it is a short list.
maybe Da2 isnt a real rpg anymore, but if you just play it and dont juge over it as an rpg, inestad just juding *is that a game that makes a lot of fun?* so a lot people have to compare with the others that da2 is also a great game. I know some idiots who say *i've watched a friend playing 15 mins that game and i've made my decision(****ing bad game)* so i've written above, the intro or the tutorial what ever is terrible it's broing, but some just played this part. -.- they could have played the demo before if they have done so, they should be able to say "i wont buy that game" but the whole world is populated with idiots.
but at the and everyone has his own opinion
but those who judge without having played it are retards
*sorry for my english ^^ if it is that bad as i think*
hope i helped you BCR
