The only real complaint I have with the game is that it recycles maps way too much, and Kirkwall just feels small. I mean... well... if the entire game takes place in one city, then the objective here would be to do as much as you can to make it seem like it's a huge city.
Storywise, Kirkwall is where nearly the entire nation of Fereldan went to escape the blight. I didn't see much in the way of Kirkwall being large, and the game didn't offer any sort of vast landscape views that eluded to the idea that this was a huge city. I mean, I sort of expected at some point to walk out on some balcony to see a beautiful backdrop like in practically every other Bioware game. To see the Viscount Keep or Chantry Mosoleum in some off-distance region of the city, like in Lowtown or something. An image that reminds the people of how poor they are there, but it gives them something to aspire too. But that never really happened, except when you were outside in the mountain terrain or something. And even then, all you ever see is a desolate wasteland that looks like it's been burned to ash by dragon-breath. Overall, the level design is the weakest link here. And that's a total shame, because the rest of the game is so, so good.
So.... yeah. If I were to complain about anything - it would be that. Just about every other aspect of DA2 was nearly perfect in my opinion. Combat was excellent, the attribute/ability system gives you lots of options, the story was bad-ass, the concept of Hawke's rise to glory and how it unfolds makes things extremely personable, and probably most important of all, the companion characters could be some of Bioware's best.
I think the people who are complaining about anything other than what I mentioned above are just complaining to complain for complaining's sake. Because really, other than the size and number of explorable zones... there isn't much to complain about.

Dragon age 2 seeems a approximative work, too low in the bioware standard, pressed out by the usual oppressive EA games.
The game has too much repeated areas, less interaction with our companion, tooo damm blood mages, and the combat and spanw sistem neeed to be reworked (the combat a few, is spectacular... but too less strategy) and the spawn sistem... you kill the first 5-8 enemy and people start of jump down from the walls... serius?
No chance to use traps, prepare anbush... the old "grease and fireball" trick, too many funny things lost in the way (i think friedly fire need to be a option out of the difficulty, if i want to have friedly fire a normal i have the chance to have it)
And some char are too Jrgp style (merril powerful, innocent and cute -.-''' and Fenrys small white haired guy with a giant sword...)

I find the game decent. It's not bad at all but I wish they had more old stuff in it. Would rather have seen a direct sequel. The romances are pretty darn lame compared to first game. Not fond of seeing the same places over and over again. I mean in first game, the characters where AWESOME. They limited the game way to much. Would like to point out that starting to sell DLC's on the release day is also a big damn silly flaw.
Nah, go back to Dragon Age: Origin'ish story, romance style etc. cause to be fair, even the teletubbies makes more romance than this.
but yeah, Drake-on Age was decent. But then again I only paid £24 for it.
Err. DaO had DLC on day 1.

I've seen the same happen in every Forum. I bought civilization 5 and the forums are full of whining; there are atleast twenty people who make a living by writing a 3 page long essay on why Civ5 is the worst game of history every day of the week. It hasn't stopped for the last 8 months; the same happened to all total war games; they're all the worst games of history and the forumites are already discussing how long they should torture each members of the creative assembly before they put them out of their misery. Hell, I even play Age of Conan and if I want to find a thread that is not whining I have to post something myself and hope it doesn't get deleted.
Let's just face it; people whine for the sake of whining. Do never, ever assume that they actually want to back anything up in any way, because whining feels great; if gives you purpose in live. Since I'm not satisfied with my product I have to make the game miserable for everyone else; when I'm confronted by anything I have to put up the wall that I'm a paying customer even if I've spent more time whining about the game than playing it. As paying customer, I must whine every day for at least seven hours, since I'm a paying customer. Oh, and I'm also a PC Gamer, which means that I have to whine for another 3 hours that the game was dumbed down for consoles, even when there is no console version of said game (happens all the time in Civ5, don't ask...). PC Games have special whining rights that are protected by the ten commandments and all governements. If you're not whining you may as well find yourself something to whine about.
There isn't any point in visiting Game Forums anymore once the general consensus has been reached, if you're looking for Tips or have questions for gameplay, ask a Wiki or your friends.

DA2 is one big sidequest, it is restrictive and it has lost the charm that made DA:O special. Enjoy your mediocre game OP I however will not support this game.

I mean, I consider myself civilized, a bit anti social but still, I made my review, pointed out what I liked and what I didn't like. No point insulting the game, or the people working on it.
I'm a pretty hardcore gamer, I mean, 8 hours a day for a week is a lot. So, not my first game.
I love the game. Why? Cuz in the end, after finishing the game, I had THAT feeling. That feeling of "Why is this game done"! I wanna keep playing! I don't wan't to go back to the real world.
So, yeah, people are complaining crying, insulting console "kids" because they are oh so cool with their 3000 bucks computer. (I'm no kid, not living with my parents I can't afford a freaking gaming computer). You'll probably see people saying that everyone in the world is gonna return the game because of the huge flaws and bugs, and they're never gonna buy a bioware game again. Gamer world, lots of fanatics.
Good job Bioware, you gave me a feeling that only a handful of game did. Which is, awesomness

The only complaint I have is the lack of flemeth in the story. She shows up twice, I believe, and both times are in Act 1. Unless I missed a side mission or something...

I think the problem with the game is that it either is, or isn't your cup of tea. That's the way it is with most games, but perhaps with DA2 a little more than others. I understand all of the complaints, don't agree with all of them though, but everything I disliked I simply got over and ignored so I could enjoy the game, which in the end I definitely did.

They essentially took the least important aspects of Origins, the combat and graphics, and made them the focus of the game. This came at the expense of the story (disjointed and unengaging) characters (shallow archetypes) and environment (Kirkwall has more in common with a prison than a city.)
My thoughts exactly, well said. I do enjoy the game and the characters, but I find myself disinterested with the main storyline and extremely bored of looking at the same scenery. I would have gladly returned to DA:O graphics and combat if I could have just one more city to go to...on that note, I have taken a break from DA2 to play Awakening again, and am really taking notice of how much more I have to strategize my gameplay eventhough there are fewer enemies.

I like the game too.
No-one on these forums commented on the fact that Bioware has finally stepped away from their '3-4 quest chains from hub' gameplay. Kotor had it's 4 planets, DA:O it's 4 main quests, same for Jade Empire.
I find this game refreshing in that manner.
Sure, it's quite less epic to bash in skulls from bandits where in DA:O you would casually behead Dragons. It's still a good game though, but on a different (PC is not a demi-god superpowered member of a special group) kind of level.
I can live with that....the fact that you're not playing as a superhero. But I'm the type of guy who wields only 1 lightsaber and simple robes in Kotor 1 and 2....

I like the combat, which isn't all that different, mechanically, then DA:O: Press space to pause and coordinate, press space to watch the fun. In DA2 the visuals in combat are just more fun. (Tactics do seem to work better.)
The story line isn't on par with Planescape Torment, but what CRPG has had a story that good?
Thanks for a great game Bioware, thanks for the high res texture pack!
Some people are just setting unrealistic expectations imho.

No. I also think it's a good, although flawed, game. Yet, despite these flaws, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I ever enjoyed DA:O. Of course, the haters have decided that this particular subjective opinion is wrong, and everyone who has it is a 'retard'
