You are not alone (YANA). I quite enjoy the game in spite of how vocal I am being about its flaws, but you are always hardest on those you love (and I love you, Bioware) - I think the game has a good story, and is overall fun in spite of repetitive environments, etc. Nightmare is quite nightmarish, probably too much so owing to some bad gameplay decisions (Assassins with better HP and damage resistance than tanks lololol). It's far from perfect, a solid 8/10 wheres I'd give DA:O a 9.5/10.

I actually just finished the game. Very epic ending - I can't wait for a continuation of the story. Somehow, I think Flemeth is involved :P

I'm going to start my 2nd playthrough tonight.

I'll be replaying it as well. If anything, just to go through as a warrior and then a rogue, so that I can get to use some of some of the gear that I did not get a chance to use on my party or myself. I love the game, but why they took away the ability to kit out your party is simply baffling to me.

Just think, there are people in this world (mainly German's and Brazilian's) who love to eat human waste. Therefore it stands to reason there are bound to be people who enjoy playing Dragon Age II

And yet you take the time to post on DA:2 forums to take the ****** at this game.
You're a very dedicated hater, or you have nothing else to do :P

I do agree with you on the Germans though. I don't trust their Bratwürst! ;)

I liked it too but for different reasons I suspect. I am coming to realize that the sequels at Bioware are game play laboratories that try to build on the first game. So what? Well if I am correct then the third installments should be major releases that incorporate back into them all the major complexity that RPG fans are clamoring for and disappointed in their seeming disposal for speed and profit in the sequel releases.

I love the game too.
Old warden in a second blight? No thanks.
Shall i save the world again? It got old.
They have created a huge, living and vibrant world: Thedas. Seeing that world only from a warden point of wiev would have meant not using all that lore and possibilities.
I enjoyed DA:O and i'm liking the changes in DA2.

While I love my, "save the land from the ultiamte evil" stories, this more personal and localized approach is quite a refreshing change of pace for me. While not as epic or as dark as Origins, it still has it's own appeal for what it is. I just wish that they would have made the environments more grand and varied, and left in the ability to kit out your party as well. The game is still great in many ways, but it could have been amazing.

I find the game decent. It's not bad at all but I wish they had more old stuff in it. Would rather have seen a direct sequel. The romances are pretty darn lame compared to first game. Not fond of seeing the same places over and over again. I mean in first game, the characters where AWESOME. They limited the game way to much. Would like to point out that starting to sell DLC's on the release day is also a big damn silly flaw.

Nah, go back to Dragon Age: Origin'ish story, romance style etc. cause to be fair, even the teletubbies makes more romance than this.
but yeah, Drake-on Age was decent. But then again I only paid £24 for it.

Err.  DaO had DLC on day 1.

Didnt play DAO on day one hence why I cant comment it. But if what you say is true, its its just as bad. Why? Cause if its gonna be DLC on day 1 they might as well just put it in the game from the start.  Find it wrong for ppl who pay alot of money to play the game just to get a DLC slapped in their face for another fee cause then they might as well go monthly fee.

I love DA2, warts and all. Despite the fact that there is definitely room for improvement in my opinion (most notably in the category of the limited and recycled locations and reduced interaction with your LI and other companions) this is still one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. I loved every minute of it.

I think DA2 is a lot better than Origins. I also think the companions are more memorable. I especially like Varric, Anders and Bethany. The biggest improvement is character relationships. You get a sense that these people hang out with each other and visit each other at their homes or in a bar. In Origins they just stand around a fire in camp and only talk to each other on the road.

I loaded up the forums to look up a quest real quick, and I'm bombarded with threads about how terrible DA2 is, how boring it is, "stop making console games" etc.

I'm honestly surprised.  I like DA2 more than I liked DAO.

I find the main character to be more interesting.  While not as epic as Morrigan, I'm really enjoying my companionship with Fenris.  He's an interesting character, imo.

The story is interesting.  I am happy there isn't a typical "go to 3 seperate areas, do things there, then meet up at the end and kill a big bad dude" type storyline that has been around since Baldur's Gate.  They experimented with a persistant city, and I LIKE it!

I like knowing that my interactions with Thrask changed the story later.  How me saving a Templar from Blood Mages changes the story.  How I get updated years later from a boy I helped out of the Circle.

Kirkwall feels like a living city, and it feels like my actions have consequences.  During act 1, I cheated the smuggler chick out of her money.  Then, when I visited Hightown at night, she ambushed me!  That was awesome!

And the combat is easily the most entertaining combat I've ever played.  It's fast paced, fun, and interesting.  I get to use my wide variety of spells on different monsters to different effects.  I queue up class-combos and dominate things.  I feel powerful when I visit lowtown in act 3 and get attacked by thugs I 1-shot with fireball.  I feel like my character has changed - instead of being the same throughout each act.

Kudos to Bioware.  I love it.  Thanks for experimenting.

I could not agree more. I stayed away from the forums for over a month, and when I was playing, I was thinking what an epic triumph this was. Even the most notorious haters (won't name names) would be sure to enjoy it. I was consistently blown away by the plot twists, the voice acting, the combat, and OMG don't get me started on the rivalry system. My character can be true to him-/herself now, and I don't have to kiss ass with all my companions or else feel like I'm depriving myself of content. I can have actual arguments.

Then I come here and there is so much hate. I've been sticking to General because there are still things I want to experience for myself on future playthroughs, so maybe it's different there, with people who've actually played the game. But still, I was...dismayed.

To put it simply to the OP: You're wrong. DA2 might not be an objectively bad game, but the Title is Dragon Age 2, and compared to Dragon Age: Origins it quite simply fails in every aspect of design and execution.

They essentially took the least important aspects of Origins, the combat and graphics, and made them the focus of the game. This came at the expense of the story (disjointed and unengaging) characters (shallow archetypes) and environment (Kirkwall has more in common with a prison than a city.)

This game isn't The Empire Strikes Back, it's Attack of the Clones. All flash and no fury.

First off...least important aspects is combat and graphics? Those were arguably the top complaints about DA:O. Next to the whole emotionless face warden. So it makes sense to focus on those and improve them. Which BioWare did an amazing job on IMO. The story was not sacrificed at all. Whether DA2 had Origins combat or not, it would still be the same story. Go make up another random reason why you probably only played halfway through the first act. The characters are deep and engaging if you actually talk to them and do thier sidequests. Talk about emotional turmoil.

And as far the Kirkwall being more like a prison.......well..........it was a slave city for a long time.  The city grows on you after you get past Act 1 IMO. So maybe you should go try that...

And for the combat is not tactical argument. Take it off casual and bump it up to Hard or Nightmare. Then come QQ that it is too hard.

And the re-used areas. Replay Origins and tell me that Origins did not do the same thing.

Haters gonna hate.Posted Image

Most of these "terrible DA2 threads" are just trolling.

DA2 has some disadvantages that should be fixed, but it's better then DA:O and step forward in fantasy RPG development. classic RPGs are outdated. And BioWare is one of the developers that evolve the genre... Actually I know only one other developer that also evolve the genre: ArenaNet.

Is it flawed? Sure. I think it really could have used a few more months to fix some of the more pressing issues, like the maps.

Origins was flawed too, and a lot of people forget that. It got just as much flak as DA2 is getting, because people were comparing Origins to BG2.

I freaking love it. Without going into my nitpicks about what I don't like about either game, I played DA:O and finished it, and put it on the shelf for 6 months. With DA2, I finished it, said some pretty creative expletives, and immediately started a new game. I won't be putting this one away any time soon.

TC, how far into the game are you? After I got used to it in the first few hours I actually liked it more then DA:O. Now midway through act 2 I'm compleetly bored. THere is too much repetition. Whether ti is in quests, loot, areas or enemies. If you finished the game without getting bored then good for you (honestly). If you are in act1 then wait and see...

I love DA2 for different reasons than i loved DAO. first i love the fighting engine better than the turn based engine in origins. second i love Hawke, i love how your decisions effect not only the world around you but Hawke personally (situations involving Bethany or Carter for exampl) lastly i love the way your Mage ACTUALLY feels more powerful than mine did in origins the fact that they actually use their staffs to do physical damage instead of just taking a beating is awesome! so bravo bioware cant wait for DA3!!!!
