Considering he helped me beat the High Dragon? No. I'm quite pleased with the pup.
So anyone else that Dog is the worst bonus ever?

Yay for finally being able to have dog in my party, since I never liked actually using a space for him in DAO?

The dog is nuts. He's the perfect tank for the exception that he doesn't have a taunt ability. He's perfect for holding enemies that are distant and haven't closed in on the party, so you can focus for what's in your immediate area. I just wish you got to choose his color and paint. <333 OOoh that would be lovely.

Nope, the dog can't die, continuously attacks and is a free companion. Only downside to the dog is after it takes so much damage the dog is unsummoned. Beyond that, good dog in this one. Better than the dog in DA:O

I thought the dog was great. He was a capable off-tank and was very useful in helping Aveline keep the aggro off my ranged DPS (MageHawke, Merrill, Varric).

The dog is completely awesome. I didn't like using it in DAO because it took the spot of a companion. But now that he doesn't he's beast. Though sometimes I notice him just standing around like a moron, like Zevran in the final fight.

Absolutely not. The Dog was the best thing in the world for both of my ranged characters, and saved my ass a couple of times when I was the only one left alive.

I love my cute little dog named dog, how could you not like him? I did like being able to control him but in the first dragon age I didnt keep him in my party much because I wanted more room for a more important character like a mage, rogue, or warrior.

well, in DAO I didnt get to use the dog much because I really dug the main companions. I wished they had made the dog a pet rather than a companion (i.e. summon him not have him consume a companion slot) because he did actually have interactions and his own sort of semi-storyline.
Now, in DA2 he's a pet! Yay! ..except, he has no story and isnt really interactive at all.
I just can't win ;p

I don't know if I would have liked it as much if I had to buy it separately, but I did enjoy using the dog quite often. He's a bit buggy, but it did help out in a lot of fights - especially the Arishok's, like others have said.
