Forgot to show it was nightmare but see how quickly my companions get wiped out.

The key to this build is maxing out the Spirit Healer spec as fast as possible with the ultimate goal of getting Vitality (the real key and gem) and what makes you almost invunerable; for the second Spec try to get Unshakeable in the Force Mage tree. These will allow you to survive almost anything on Nightmare. You can be killed though, for example but multiple bow men firing at you in rapid succession but as you see in the video, one shots, as long as they don;t kill you wll be healed very quickly; with the aura and Vitality, you are healing at a +200 rate. Another interesting thing is that most of the spells (with the exception of Fist of the Maker) can still be cast with Healing Aura.

Merril has maxed out Entropy to up party damage and bring down attacks; Anders is offensive, taking advantage of the 80% cool down via vengeance and Varric is just a rapid fire guy with buffs from talents to increase his fire rate; he also has goad and armistice to redirect attacks to Hawke.

Tell me what you think.

Just a few quick comments. I wouldn't exactly call this a Spirit Healer "Tank" spec because I cant count on two hands how many times you lost Threat during that fight to your ranged dps. Secondly, if you are going to main heal with Hawke, why not bring another dps instead of a dps spec'd Anders? His bread and butter is support healing.

Also Ctrl+A+Tactics is your friend and will drop that 8 minute fight down to about 4 minutes. That youtube video is almost unbearable to sit through with that much pause.

Well, I want to improve, so thank you for the advice. What does ctrl+A+Tactics do?

Since you have Vitality, invest in Strength and put on Plate. Blood Dragon Armor requires only 19 Str/Con. Add Rock Armor too.

Well, I am using a mod that gets rid of double requirements so I don't really need to worry about that much...

It's not a cheat mod; I just don't like the double requirements of DA2; there should be only one stat requirement.

There is no job requirement. It's 19 strength and 19 constitution.

You do realize that your fast health regeneration has more to do with the glitchy healing aura than with vitality right? For example, turn off the aura then turn it back on. Afterwards, try tanking the next battle. You will be... unhappy.

:crying: Yeah, I noticed that...pretty weird, oh well, was pretty overpowered as it was anyway.

Anders? His bread and butter is support healing

He's weakest with panacea. Ander's can do it all in vengence. 80% refresh times say so.

Yes, I really like Anders as an offensive mage; those insane cool downs make it possible to cast spells again and again.

Anders is arguably better than Merrill in terms of shear damage.  However, the drowbacks are quite numerous.

Anders is the only NPC "healer" since Bethany is only available for a portion of the game and Merrill doesn't have a Creation tree.
Anders requires either a bit of Willpower or a bit of care in terms of HP because of Martyr.
Anders will have 0% Damage Resistance regards of influences (actually, can this become negative?) when in Vengeance.
Anders can only be healed by killing something while in Vengeance.

However, all that into consideration, Anders gets +20% Damage from his Friendship bonus and Vengeance ontop of 20% off of cooldowns passively and another 15% off on demand (which also comes with Mana).  Simply put, Anders can spam more often for more damage than Merrill.  Merrill, however, has the luxury of Manablood, a huge HP pool, and a few defensive sustains to make her stout.

The healing aura isn't really all that good. It is a very lackluster mode to use. A mode that takes half your mana, and stops you from casting 70 percent of the games spells, just so that you can basically cast a group heal once a minute.(that is what it boils down to).

It is much better to never be in healing mode, have access to all the spells, and switch to heal sustain mode if you really need to cast a group heal. Even if you are a full support buff mode Anders, the minor investment in at least a single cross class combo aoe spell will likely do more good than sitting in heal mode entire battles, waiting on 1 minute heal timers.

Don't get me wrong, I have np with a whole class being a healer and buffer. I was just disapointed that essentially the Anders heal sustain is made to support a single aoe heal spell, and thats pretty much it, unless you need to rez a lot during battles. Even then I am quirky that way, I consider dying party members to be failure, and usually redo, to do it better:)

Maxed out Spirit Healer Hawke is a much better healer/supporter than Anders is...only thing Anders has is the better cooldown.

Same here. I've tried making him a support healer mage but it never works well. The enemy always goes straight for him for some reason even though he's doing no damage. So I have him offensive spells and was satified. He still died too often for my taste, and he's nothing compared to Merrill, but he is better than before so yeah....

THIS!! I don't know why they felt the need to add two when one worked well enough. Having two stat checks just makes it hard to build a good blood mage.:(

Hmm... your health regen looks glitched. No way that's suposed to work like that.

Anyway, yes, Spirit Healer/Force Mage with some points in Str/Con to wear plate is very powerfull. I've played like this and felt like a better version of DA:O Arcane Warrior.
