I'm not a fan of drugging your kids just because they're, you know, acting like kids.  I think it's terrible, lazy parenting.

Varric, however, is one of those rare cases of a kid who could be benefited by a little Ritalin.  He can't stand still.  I tell him to shoot an enemy and instead he runs clear across the room and shoots a different enemy.  Once.  Then, he moves again, and randomly shoots a new enemy.  Once.

I've spoken to him about this.  I told him if he couldn't behave himself and stop fidgeting, I was going to turn off all of his tactics.  I did so, and he still dances in between shots, effectively cutting his attack speed by 3/4.  He still waits until I'm about to pop Rally to run as far away from me as he can, and out of range.  He still flees to other continents to find entirely new races of formerly undiscovered enemies, shoots at them once, and then brings them back to share with the rest of the class.

He's a clever child, though, and very funny.  I want to keep him around, but he just goofs off so much that it's a distraction to everyone, not to mention he's gotten us all killed numerous times.  So, for now, I've had to leave him back at camp where he plays cards with Anders, who is currently in a time out for being a freaking stalker and equating my being polite to him for two minutes to us being in a committed relationship.  (Anders then got angry when I had to break it to him that even if I did swing that way I wouldn't go for someone as clingy and desperate as he is.)

Do the rest of you have any tips for dealing with Varric's (and to a lesser degree other party members') ADHD?

Aw, damnit Fenris.  Not you, too.  Look, the crush you all have on me is sweet and everything, but I can't have all of my students constantly hitting on me.

Unless they look like Isabela.

lol, thought your post was great, i also agree though I can not get Varric not to run all of over the place, especially when i was fighting the arishock (spelling?) the battle would start and all of a sudden he would start running through all of them to the very back of the room.
